posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Former Nogizaka46 idol Rina Ikoma stars in title role of July stage play

The official website for Mahō Sensei Negima! ~Okochama Sensei wa Shugyō Chū!~ (Negima! Magister Negi Magi - The Little Kid Teacher Is in Training!), the stage play adaptation of Ken Akamatsu's Negima! Magister Negi Magi manga, revealed the cast and visual for the stage play on Wednesday.

The site also revealed photo (seen below) of former Nogizaka46 member Rina Ikoma. Like the above visual, she is in costume as protagonist Negi Springfield.

The cast includes:

  • Rie Matsuoka as Asuna Kagurazaka
  • Wanabi Ai as Konoka Konoe
  • Hatsuka Utada (AKB48) as Evangeline A.K. McDowell

The stage play will run at the AiiA 2.5 Theater in Tokyo from July 12 to July 16.

Kodansha Comics describes the manga:

Follow the adventures of Negi Springfield, a fresh magic academy graduate, as he starts his new job as a teacher at an all-girls high school. Can he balance his teaching duties while pursuing his dream to become a great wizard like his father?

The manga ran from 2003 to 2012. Del Rey Manga began publishing the manga in North America, but Kodansha Comics took over publishing duties for this title and others in 2010.

The manga inspired the Xebec's 2005 Negima! anime, and Shaft's 2006-2007 Negima!? anime. Funimation previously released both in North America. Sentai Filmworks licensed both series in January.

Akamatsu's sequel manga UQ Holder! also inspired an anime, which Sentai Filmworks has licensed. The series aired last fall and streamed on Amazon's Anime Strike.
