Risa Itou Launches Oruchuban Ebichu Manga Sequel After 11 Years

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Original hamster comedy manga ended in 2007, inspired Gainax anime

This year's 15th issue of Futabasha's Manga Action magazine revealed on Tuesday that manga creator Risa Itou will launch Oruchuban Ebichu Chu~, a new Oruchuban Ebichu manga sequel, in the magazine's 17th issue on August 7. The manga will be the first new manga in the franchise since the original manga ended 11 years ago in 2007.

As with the original comedy manga, the new manga will center on the titular hamster Ebichu, who can understand humans.

The manga previously inspired a television anime series by Gainax in 1999.

Itou previously won the Kodansha Manga Award in the shōjo manga category in 2005 for her series Hey Pitan! She won the 2006 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Short Story Award for One Woman, Two Cats, Hey Pitan! and Onna no Mado. Her Higepiyo manga also inspired a television anime in 2009.
