Madoka Magica's Magia Record Game Ad Features Skating Gold-Medalist Alina Zagitova

Zagitova transforms into Madoka costume in ad marking game's 1-year anniversary

The official Twitter account for the Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden smartphone role-playing game began streaming a new commercial to celebrate the game's one-year anniversary. The commercial, titled "Zagitova Transforms," features Russian Olympic skater Alina Zagitova skating a program where she transforms into a costume reminiscent of franchise protagonist Madoka Kaname's magical girl costume. The music used in the commercial is the melody of Kalafina's "Hikari Furu," the theme song of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal film. Yuki Kajiura composed the song.

The game launched for iOS and Android devices in August 2017.

The game's story, a spinoff of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. "If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname."

The new character Iroha Tamaki (voiced by Momo Asakura) becomes a magical girl with a wish to save her sister from illness. Madoka Kaname (again voiced by Aoi Yūki) also arrives in Kamihama to search for her missing friend Homura.

The game is getting a stage play adaptation, the first in the Madoka Magica franchise. The play will run at TBS Akasaka ACT Theater in Tokyo from August 24 to September 9.
