Sumeragi launches new super-deformed manga series before shorts' debut

A Niconico Live streaming program for the fourth anniversary of The Idolm@ster SideM game revealed on Monday that a television anime adaptation of Sumeragi and Bandai Namco Entertainment's The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini! spinoff manga will premiere on October 9. The anime shorts will air on Tokyo MX and BS11 in Japan on Tuesdays. The anime's official website revealed a promotional video and key visuals on Monday.

The anime's cast members are reprising their roles from The Idolm@ster SideM game and previous anime in The IDOLM@STER franchise.

Mankyū (PUCHIM@S, The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Gekijō) is directing and is in charge of series composition for the shorts at Zero-G. Sao Tamado (PUCHIM@S, Mobile Suit Gundam-san) is designing the characters based on Sumeragi's original designs. Kazuhiko Yokota (animation director for Battery the Animation, Grand Blue) is chief animation director.

Other staff members include:

The Idolm@ster SideM's three idol types — Physical, Mental, and Intelligent — will each perform an ending theme song for the anime. CDs for each group with the ending theme song and background music will ship on November 14, December 5, and December 19, respectively.

In addition, Sumeragi will draw The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini! Returns manga that will debut in the November issue of Kadokawa's Dengeki Maoh magazine on September 27. To mark the anime's announcement, The Idolm@ster SideM Live On St@ge app will also add a new "Mini" feature.

Sumeragi launched the The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini! manga in 2016 and ended it in January. Kadokawa published the series' compiled book volume in March. The manga features the characters from The Idolm@ster SideM franchise in super-deformed form.

The main The Idolm@ster SideM game launched in July 2014, and is available for iOS and Android devices, as well as on Mobage and ChromeApps. The game has more than 1 million downloads. Like other The IDOLM@STER games, SideM is built on the concept of "idols you can produce." The app focuses on the male idols at the agency 315 Production (pronounced "Saikō Production" or "Ultimate Production"). Another app, The Idolm@ster SideM Live On St@ge, launched in 2017.

Katō ended The Idolm@ster SideM Dramatic Stage manga in Dengeki Maoh in June 2017. Kadokawa shipped the manga's third and final compiled book volume in August. Katō then launched The Idolm@ster SideM Struggle Heart manga in Dengeki Maoh on October 27.

The game's 13-episode anime adaptation premiered on October 7. A prologue special about the three Jupiter idol unit members aired on September 30. Crunchyroll streamed both anime as they aired.
