The official blog for the live-action series and film adaptation of Broccoli's Meiji Tokyo Renka romance visual novel revealed additional cast members for the live-action project last Friday. The additional cast includes:

Makaha Takahashi as Shunsō Hishida

Taiki Yamazaki as Otojirō Kawakami

Toman as Kyōka Izumi

Yūki Kubota as Gorō Fujita

Tetsuya Iwanaga as Yakumo Koizumi

Rikka Ihara will star in the series and film as protagonist Mei Ayazuki. She is seen below in costume as her character.

The series will run for eight episodes on TV Kanagawa, TV Hokkaido, TV Saitama, Chiba TV, Nagoya Broadcasting Network, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, and QTV in 2019. It will also stream on the U-NEXT service. The film will open in Japan in 2019 after the series finishes.

Broccoli's Meiji Tokyo Renka visual novel romance franchise began with a 2011 mobile game, which was ported to PlayStation Portable in 2013. The game is also inspiring a television anime that will premiere in January. A new iOS and Android game titled Meiji Tokyo Renka Haikara Date is slated for this summer, but has not yet launched.

The anime film adaptation of the game opened in Japan in 2015. The film's website describes the story's prologue: On an evening lit by a crimson full moon, an ordinary high school girl named Mei Ayazuki meets a self-proclaimed magician named Charlie at a festival. Through Charlie's magic, she time-travels to the Meiji era in Tokyo, where she meets and falls in love with various great historical figures from that time period.
