In it, series antagonist Sachiko Shinozaki, who ruthlessly murdered countless students and superiors in previous games, throws herself a birthday party. Her guests include her previous victims, who are put through various activities for her amusement.

The game debuted for the PlayStation Portable in Japan in August 2012.

XSEED Games released the PSP version of the original Corpse Party game in North America and Europe, as well as the follow-up games Corpse Party: Book of Shadows on PSP and Corpse Party: Blood Drive for PS Vita. XSEED released an English translation of the expanded 2008 edition of the original PC game via Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Store by Humble Bundle in April 2016. 5pb. released an iOS port with XSEED's English translation in 2015. 5pb. shipped Corpse Party: Blood Covered …Repeated Fear, a Nintendo 3DS port of the game, in July 2016.

GrindHouse released the Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient game in 2013 on the PC as a sequel to Team GrisGris' original Corpse Party games. The reboot version, titled Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient Neues; (seen left), shipped for the PC in Japan October 2017. XSEED Games will release the rebooted version.
