Pokémon-Hunting Grandpa Uses 15 Phones to Catch 'Em All

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

How dedicated are you to Niantic's Pokémon GO mobile game? Maybe you've gotta catch as many shiny variants as possible or just enjoy the opportunity to mix sightseeing with capturing regional-exclusive Pokémon. There are many different ways to enjoy playing, but a 70-year-old Taiwanese man is taking the game to the next level.

The "Pokémon Hunting Grandpa" Chén Sānyuán first started his Pokémon quest on his bike with a single smartphone but his mission to become Pokémon Master quickly expanded. Soon the number of phones grew from one to three to six to nine and eventually to his current number of 15 phones. Sānyuán arranges the phones in a fan shape that attaches to his bicycle and each is plugged into a battery supply in his bike's basket.

Sānyuán can be spotted out and about on his bike near his home in New Taipei City catching as many Pokémon as he can on his 15 phones.

The Pokémon GO mobile game burst onto the scene in July 2016 and has continued to add new Pokémon and tie-in events ever since. Japan has offered tourism packages to help intrepid players catch region exclusive monsters and motivated its players around the world to participate in community service. Lucky players have even met their true loves through playing the game.

The Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu!/Eevee! games for the Nintendo Switch will tie into Pokémon GO. The all-new Pokémon Meltan and Melmetal will be available in the games through trading with the Pokémon GO smartphone game.
