Kodansha USA Licenses Cardcaptor Sakura, Tales of Berseria, Fate/Grand Order Manga

North American publisher Kodansha Comics announced at Anime NYC on Saturday that it has licensed CLAMP's Cardcaptor Sakura, Nobu Aonagi's Tales of Berseria, and Shiramine's Fate/Grand Order -mortalis:stella- manga. In addition, the company announced that it plans to release a collector's edition box set for its nine Princess Jellyfish omnibus volumes in summer 2019.

Kodansha Comics will release the first volume of its Cardcaptor Sakura: Collector's Edition in spring 2019. The edition will consist of nine hardcover volumes with a newly-revised translation and all the original color pages. Each volume will have new cover art by CLAMP and a "Clow Card." The publisher teased that those who collect all nine volumes will get a "special treat."

Cardcaptor Sakura ran in Nakayoshi from May 1996 to June 2000, and Kodansha published 12 volumes of the manga from November 1996 to July 2000. Tokyopop released the series in English in two editions and Dark Horse Comics rereleased the series in four omnibus volumes from 2010-2012.

An anime adaptation produced by Madhouse aired in Japan from April 1998 to March 2000. A film titled Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie premiered in Japan in 1999, and Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card followed in 2000.

Kodansha Comics is publishing the new sequel series, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card, in English. The manga launched in June 2016 and inspired a 22-episode anime beginning in January.

Kodansha Comics will begin releasing the four-volume Tales of Berseria series in fall 2019. Aonagi launched the manga in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Rex in fall 2016, and ended it this past summer.

In Tales of Berseria, players embark on a journey of self-discovery as they assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once kind demeanor has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within Tales of Berseria. Velvet will join a crew of pirates as they sail across the sea and visit the many islands that make up the sacred kingdom of Midgand in an all-new adventure developed by the celebrated team behind the Tales of series.

Bandai Namco Entertainment released the game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan in August 2016, and released the game for the PS4 and PC via Steam in North America and Europe in January 2017.

Kodansha Comics will begin releasing the Fate/Grand Order -mortalis:stella- series in fall 2019. Shiramine launched the ongoing manga in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine in July 2017. The first volume shipped in January. The company referred to the manga as a two-volume series.

Aniplex released the Fate/Grand Order game in Japan in summer 2015. The game received an English release in the United States and Canada in June 2017. A 74-minute television anime based on the game titled Fate/Grand Order: First Order aired in Japan in December 2016.
