Netflix Considers Expanding Into Japan, Asian Markets

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos stated at the MIPCOM trade event last week that the company has plans of going global, with only Asia left for the company. The digital streaming service recently branched out into continental Europe.

"Pretty soon we'll have only Asia left in terms of expansion," said Sarandos. "We have a desire to be global, it's just a matter of timing."

Sarandos is particularly interested in Japan stating, "An interesting thing about Japan is the fact that the largest markets in the world for Japanese animation is Japan, France and America, all the places where we have very big footprints, or we hope to." He added that Australia and New Zealand are also viable because of their interest in U.S. content.
