Bandai Makes Zaku II Inspired Cakes For Christmas

posted on by Chris Nishijima
What better way to spend the holiday than with an army of Zaku Cakes?

In the Mobile Suit Gundam world, the MS-06F Zaku II is one of the most mass produced Mobile Suits around. Its iconic cyclops-like look has become part of Gundam culture altogether. While their ranks contain countless casualties, their never ending numbers are the stuff of nightmares. Still, who knew that they could become something so delicious? In preparation for Christmas, Bandai has announced their brand new MS-06F Zaku II Cake Set.

Baked by the Aichi prefecture-based confectionary Yellow Pumpkin, who was also responsible for last year's cake version of Char's Red MS-06S Zaku II, this homage to the green giant is not only an artistic recreation of the Zaku, but also a scrumptious dessert baked to perfection.

The outside of the cake is a moist green tea sponge cake, which mingles perfectly with the taste of the taste of the coffee mouse cream which fills the center. The outer embellishments and pipes are made from shiro koshian white bean paste mixed with green tea flavoring, while the Zaku's signature monoeye is made of white chocolate. The cake measures in at 15cm in diameter and 7cm in height, making this cake perfect for either enjoying by yourself, or sharing with another person.

In addition to this, each cake comes with a manga print plate which collects a number of scenes in which Zaku II soldiers are smash, bashed, and completely torn asunder by Amuro's RX-78-2_Gundam unit. Of course, the weapon of choice in any of these fights is the Beam Saber. In order to make the homage complete, a Beam Saber skewer has also been included with the cake, so that you can take on the challenge of toppling a Zaku yourself.

Preorders started on October 10 and can be made online through Bandai's Premium Bandai site. It is currently priced at 4,800 yen (about US $44.98) and will be delivered in mid-December.
