Phantasy Star Nova Game Inspires PS Vita, PS TV Variants

Systems to ship in Japan independent of the game on November 27

Sony Computer Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it will release limited edition PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV consoles with Fantasy Star Nova designs in Japan. The consoles will not bundle with the game but will ship on the same day, November 27, for 20,980 yen (about US$194) and 11,480 yen (about US$106), respectively. A separate version of the PS TV will include a DualShock 3 controller and an 8GB memory card for 16,280 yen (about US$150).

The PS Vita will come in both a white and a black design while the PS TV will come in white. Both systems will also have Phantasy Star Nova-themed menu displays, a message card from the development team, and an original sleeve.

Sega's Phantasy Star Nova lets players fight against gigantic monsters called "Gigantes" on a planet where photon energy cannot be used. Up to four players can join forces in Phantasy Star Nova in ad-hoc cooperative gameplay. Players can customize their character's appearance and name. The game will also feature new "Pile" anchor shooting weapons that create weak points in enemies. As players clear missions, the game's story expands.

Japanese developer tri-Ace (Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile) is making the science-fiction role-playing game for the PlayStation Vita. The game does not require an online connection, although it shares the same world setting as the current Phantasy Star Online 2 game.
