Over Lord Fantasy RPG Light Novels Gets Manga

posted on by Kyle Cardine
Manga of Kugane Maruyama's dark fantasy to begin in November

The December issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace announced on Saturday that Hugin Miyama will launch a manga adaptation of Kugane Maruyama's dark fantasy novels Over Lord in the next issue on November 26.

The story begins with Yggdrasil, a popular online game which is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) begining to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.

An anime adaptation was also announced in August. Maruyama began the series online in 2010, and Kadokawa's Enterbrain imprint then published it in print with illustrations by so-bin in 2012. The fourth and sixth print volumes bundled drama CDs with Satoshi Hino, Yumi Hara, Emiri Katō, and Sumire Uesaka in the main cast. Sales of the light novel series has topped 400,000 copies.
