Hybrid Four-Panel's Kazuya Tani draws Char & Casval gag comedy

The March issue of Kadokawa's Gundam Ace magazine is announcing on Monday that Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga is inspiring a four-panel comedy manga spinoff. Kazuya Tani is launching the "original slapstick gag" comedy Char to Casval (Char and Casval) in the next issue on February 26. Char Aznable was the main antagonist in the first Gundam anime, and Casval Rem Deikun was his original birth name. Tani serialized his Kidō Senshi Gundam Hybrid 4-Koma Taisensen (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hybrid Four-Panel War Frontline) in the same magazine from 2007 to 2013.

Kadokawa will also publish the 24th volume of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin on February 26. The volume will compile the Special Edition spinoff chapters that Yasuhiko drew after ending the main story in 2011. Kadokawa published the 23rd volume in November 2011.

The Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga is itself a re-imagining of Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise's first Gundam anime. Yasuhiko launched the manga in Kadokawa Shoten's inaugural Monthly Gundam Ace issue in 2001 and ended the series in 2011. Viz Media published part of the manga in North America before stopping. Vertical picked up the license and is currently releasing the series.

The manga is inspiring a four-part anime that will open in Japanese theaters on February 28. Sunrise is collaborating with Right Stuf to release the Gundam franchise in North America, including the Gundam: The Origin anime with an English dub by NYAV Post.
