The May issue of Shueisha's Ribon magazine is announcing on Friday that the stage play of Miho Obana's Kodocha (Kodomo no Omocha) shojo manga has cast Kotono Mitsuishi (Sailor Moon, Evangelion) and Ikkei Yamamoto (Prince of Tennis musical) for the roles of Sana's mother Misako Kurata and the manager Rei Sagami, respectively. The magazine also reveals the stage play's August 20 opening date.

The manga's story revolves around the popular child actress Sana Kurata and the problem child in her sixth-grade class, Akito Hayama. The manga ran in Ribon from 1994 to 1998, and it won the shōjo category of the 22nd Kodansha Manga Awards.

Kokoro Okuda and Rio Ogura star in the shared role of Sana Kurata. Previously announced cast also include Yuga Aizawa and Rihito Itagaki (double-cast as Akito Hayama), Hiyori Arima, Masahiro Ezaki, Mari Kazama, Wakana Kawai, Keita Takahashi, Miu Takahashi, Mitsuki Nishida (Ping Pong's young Peko), Mirai, and Yumeka Yoshiwara as classmates.

Nelke Planning is sponsoring and producing the stage play, while Akitarō Daichi, the director of the Kodocha television anime, is writing and directing. The play opens in the Hakuhinkan Theatre in Ginza, Tokyo on August 20, and will run until August 30.

Tokyopop published the manga in North America, and Funimation released the television anime.
