Top Manga/Anime Artists Illustrate Educational Book Series

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

Kadokawa Shoten, Japanese publisher of various manga and Newtype magazine, is now releasing a brand new series crafted to educate as well as entertain.

The new Kadokawa Manga Learning Series has already released its first 15 volumes as of June 30. These volumes are collectively known as "Japanese History," and cover the beginning of Japan, the introduction of Buddhism to the country, the Samurai era, and of course, the Sengoku era before delving into more modern history. Each book features cover art and manga by different artists.

Among these many artists are Mine Yoshizaki, the artist behind Sgt. Frog; Mutsumi Inomata, who has previously served as animation director for shows like Mobile Suit Gundam Seed; Hiroyuki Asada, known for his work on Tegami Bachi; and Katsuya Kondo, a returning character designer on Studio Ghibli films like Kiki's Delivery Service .

The historical content was made under the supervision of Tokyo University professor Hirofumi Yamamoto. Yamamoto also made sure that the illustrations matched up aesthetically to their respective eras.

More books in the line are planned, with each promising to relay important information in a truly accessible medium.
