San Diego Comic Con to Stay In Place Through 2018

posted on by Kevin Pennyfeather

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced on Thursday that the Comic-Con International convention will stay in San Diego until at least 2018.

The convention's location contract was set to expire next year. The decision to extend that contract an additional two years comes despite the fact that convention organizers had been considering moving to a larger location in Southern California such as Los Angeles or Anaheim.

The annual convention started in San Diego in 1970, but has grown in size from a few hundred attendees each year to more than 130,000, stretching the capacity limits of San Diego Convention Center and the city's hotels.

This year's convention will be held from July 9-12.
