Nao Maita's Age 12 Manga Gets Live-Action, New Anime DVDs

1st live-action DVD to debut in August after new OVA premiered on Friday

The August issue of Shogakukan's Ciao magazine announced on Friday Nao Maita's shōjo manga 12-Sai. (Age 12) will receive two live-action DVD adaptations. The "Hanabi-hen" (Hanabi Edition) episode will bundle with the September issue on August 3, and the "Yui-hen" (Yui Edition) episode will bundle with the December issue as part of the magazine's bonus DVD series Ciao Ciao TV!.

-otoha- Taguchi will play Hanabi Ayase, and Anna Yamada will play Yui Aoi. "Hanabi-hen" will focus on Hanabi, an innocent girl who has yet to experience her first love. Together with the popular boy Takao, she accidentally sees her homeroom teacher kissing.

The "second season" of the Age 12 original video anime (OVA) series (pictured below left) also debuted in the August Ciao Ciao TV! DVD on Friday. 12-Sai. ~Boy friend~ stars Ai Kakuma (Aldnoah.Zero, Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene) as the heroine Hanabi and Sōma Saitō (Chaos Dragon, Future Card Buddyfight) as her love interest Takao. The pair are reprising their roles from the first OVA series, and Tetsuya Kakihara (Show By Rock!!, Gurren Lagann) will join the cast. The issue features an interview with Saitō.

The first Age 12 OAV series debuted in April 2014. The eighth episode bundled in the February 2015 issue of Ciao.

Besides the 12-Sai. ~Boy friend~ anime, the August issue's Ciao Ciao TV! DVD also includes PriPara, the first episode of Kyōkai no Rinne, the pet cat Shoko-tan's episode of Omakase! Miracle Cat-dan, and Mysterious Joker. In addition to the "Hanabi-hen" live-action episode, the September issue's DVD will include the anime Elite Jack!!, Inui-san!, and Omakase! Miracle Cat-dan.

Maita (Konkon x Honey, Ano Hi, Bokura wa…) also debuted a new Age 12 manga arc called 12-Sai. ~Hatsukoi~ (Age 12: First Love) in the August issue of Ciao.

The story of Maita's original manga begins with Hanabi, a sixth-grade girl who is neither an adult nor a child. She deals with issues such as accidentally witnessing her homeroom teacher kissing, and worrying about experiencing physiological changes before her friends. The manga depicts a 12-year-old girl's innocent worries and first love.

Maita launched the Age 12 manga in Ciao in 2012, and Shogakukan published the sixth compiled book volume in February. The seventh volume is slated to ship on July 24. The manga inspired the 12-Sai. ~Honto no Kimochi~ (Age 12: True Feelings) video game for the Nintendo 3DS in December 2014.
