Movie will debut digitally from Legendary Digital Media, Contradiction Films

Legendary Digital Media announced on Tuesday that it is collaborating with Contradiction Films to develop a live-action film based on Keiji Inafune's upcoming video game Mighty No. 9. The film is slated to debut on digital platforms.

Legendary Digital and Contradiction previously collaborated to adapt CAPCOM's Dead Rising Xbox 360 game, which Inafune produced in 2006. The live-action film, Dead Rising: Watchtower, debuted on Sony's Crackle streaming service in March. Contradiction produced the film and Legendary Digital was the distributor. Crackle has ordered a sequel.

Inafune revealed in February 2014 that he was in talks with Contradiction Films to create a live-action film for Mighty No. 9.

Inafune's Comcept is partnering with game publisher Deep Silver to release the multi-platform video game this fall. The game will debut for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 15 in North America and September 18 for the rest of the world. The portable version for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita will follow.

Mighty No. 9 was initially set to ship this spring. Inafune (Megaman) and his company raised more than US$3.5 million in its crowdfunding campaign for the game in October 2013. Tokyo-based animation company Digital Frontier is developing a CG-animated series for a worldwide market.

Comcept describes the game's story:

In the year 20XX, breakthroughs in robotic technology have ushered in a new era of peace & prosperity. Violence is confined to the Battle Coliseum, where robot combatants face off in spectacular duels. Dr. White created 9 robot siblings known as the “Mighty Numbers”, who were the most popular and powerful team of robots in the Battle Coliseum and always in the top ranks. But, during one competition there was a cyber-attack, infecting them with a computer virus causing them to become crazed and rampant. You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by the mysterious computer virus that caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk.

Comcept announced the English dub cast for the game in February, and the Japanese dub cast in May.
