Yotsuba&'s Cardboard Robot Upgrades to Router

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

It's not every day that a robot made of boxes gets some added functionality.

Danbo, the internet-renowned cardboard robot from the comedy manga Yotsuba&, has been converted into a special router. Known as the the Danboard Wireless Lan Router: DB-WRT01 and developed by Planex Communications, the compact device can communicate at 300Mbps and connect a variety of devices to Wi-Fi, including PCs and smartphones. It also comes with a wired connection.

While the regular model will only connect one computer at a time, the Danboard Wireless Lan Repeater DB-WEX01 is also being released that will allow multiple connections.

The original model will only come with Danbo's head, but Kaiyodo stores in Japan will also sell an optional body developed by RevolTech that is fully posable.

These new products are being released proceeding the unprecedented popularity of previous Danbo products such as the Danbo USB Mobile Battery and the Danbo USB Cable, which sold out quickly.

Both the router and LAN repeater are being released on August 7 for 3,980 yen each (US$32).
