Little Witch Academia Inspires 2 New Manga Series

Manga to begin in Shueisha's Ribon, Ultra Jump in August

This year's September issue of Shueisha's Ribon shojo magazine will announce on Monday that a new manga series based on Little Witch Academia will premiere in the next issue on September 3. Yuka Fujiwara (Crash!, RaRaRa Hallelujah!) is drawing the series, titled Little Witch Academia: Tsukiyo no Ōkan (Crown of Midnight), and the anime's director Yoh Yoshinari is credited as the original creator.

The tagline reads: "The protagonist who longs to be a magic user... meets a certain man!?"

In addition, the August issue of Shueisha's Ultra Jump announced on July 18 that a "short intensive" manga series based on Little Witch Academia will begin in the September issue on August 19. Terio Teri, the artist of the Little Witch Academia one-shot manga that debuted in the magazine in 2013, will also draw this new series. Studio Trigger is credited as the original creator.

The series will have an original story.

Studio Trigger produced Little Witch Academia under the Anime Mirai program in 2013. The sequel, Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade was funded through a Kickstarter campaign which surpassed its main goal of US$150,000 in five hours. The campaign ended one month later in August 2013 and accumulated US$625,518 (about 74 million yen) from 7,938 pledgers to reach its stretch goals. The film premiered at Anime Expo earlier this month.

The anime's story follows Akko Kagari (Megumi Han) who begins magic school at the Little Witch Academia. While studying there, she hopes of becoming just like her idol, a magician named Shiny Chariot.
