1st Attack on Titan Live-Action Film Debuts at #1, Earns 600 Million Yen

The first of two Attack on Titan live-action films debuted at #1 during the August 1-2 weekend, earning approximately 600 million yen (about US$4.8 million). The film sold approximately 467,000 tickets for the weekend.
Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures'Minions 3D CG animated film opened at #2, and Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and the Beast anime film dropped from #2 to #4 in its fourth weekend. Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages fell from #4 to #6 in its third weekend, Love Live! The School Idol Movie dropped from #7 to #8 in its eighth weekend, and Soreike! Anpanman: Mija to Mahō no Lamp fell from #8 to #10 in its fifth weekend.
TOHO began streaming a TV ad for the first Attack on Titan film on Sunday, which recaps the world premiere of the film in Hollywood that Funimation hosted last month.
The second live-action Attack on Titan film, Attack on Titan: End of the World, will open in Japan on September 19. Funimation plans to release the first film in American theaters this fall, and the company has theatrical, video-on-demand, home video, and broadcast rights to the films.
