3rd Tamayura Film's Candle-Lit Visual Reveals Title, Story Setting

posted on by Egan Loo
Akogare to open on November 28 after real-life candle festival

The official website for the Tamayura anime posted a visual (pictured below) for the third film on Monday. The film's title will be Tamayura: Sotsugyō Shashin Dai-3-bu -Akogare- (Tamayura: Graduation Photos Part 3: Adoration).

The tagline reads, "Little by little and without us noticing, our everyday lives that we had taken for granted is changing."

The visual depicts Fū, Kaoru, Norie, and Maon (plus two more in the background) standing on the steps of Shōrenji Temple, as they are lit by the bamboo lanterns from the Takehara area's celebrated Shōkei no Michi candle festival. This year, the festival will be held during the October 31-November 1 weekend.

Theaters will begin displaying posters and flyers with this visual this Saturday, September 5. The flyer will feature an interview with character designer and chief animation designer Haruko Iizuka.

The first film, Tamayura: Sotsugyō Shashin Dai-1-bu -Kizashi- (Tamayura: Graduation Photos Part 1: Sprout), opened on April 4, and the second film opened on August 29. The third and fourth films will open on November 28, 2015 and February 20, 2016, respectively. The four films collectively have the title Tamayura: Sotsugyō Shashin (Tamayura: Graduation Photos).

The story of the first film is set in the spring, when Fū, Kaoru, Norie, and Maon get promoted to third-year high school students, while Kanae has graduated. Two kōhai (students younger than the original characters) join the photography club. Even though they bring in new friends, their lively daily life remains unchanged. Yet, the four third-year students are slowly thinking about their own future dreams and paths as they face graduation in about a year. Aya Uchida and Mayu Iizuka will play the kōhai.

After all four films open in Japan, the staff will hold Tamayura "graduation ceremonies" in the spring of 2016. There will be two locations for the ceremonies in Tokyo's Kanta area and Takehara City in Hiroshima Prefecture, the setting of the anime. The four Blu-ray Discs sold at participating theaters will bundle entry forms for advance tickets to the graduation ceremonies.

The Tamayura anime project with an original concept by Junichi Satō premiered in 2010 with a series of original video animation (OVA) volumes. The project then spawned a television anime series titled Tamayura - Hitotose in 2011, with a second season titled Tamayura - More Aggressive airing in 2013.
