Anime Boot Camp Trains Japanese College Students for Jobs

Japanese school students better be ready to get drilled on anime production.
Preparations are starting for Animation Boot Camp 2015, a special program that seeks to train young prospective animators within Japanese universities and even high schools. The main lectures will be taught by Yoshimi Itazu—one of the chief animation directors for the 2007 anime, Dennō Coil—as well as Production I.G co-founder, animator, and character designer Takayuki Goto. Other lecturers will include Studio Ghibli's animation director Takeshi Inamura, Black Lagoon director Sunao Katabuchi and animator Nobuo Tomizawa.
This media-arts workshop, which started back in 2012 and has been going on yearly, teaches young people the hard-hitting creative process that goes into anime in order to cultivate their talents and steadily grow into the profession. Participants will learn the fundamentals of animation from various directors, including translating certain emotions to the audience as well as the importance of physical sensations. Participants will also have the opportunity to work in groups to create their own short production to be shown off in December.
The workshop will be held from November 20-23. The entry fee is 14,000 yen (about US$116) and the application deadline is October 12. The boot camp will accept 15 applicants.
