Imagine Entertainment to Produce Live-Action Tiger & Bunny Film

Film announcement made at Sunrise's NYCC panel

Sunrise announced at its Sunrise & Bandai Namco Pictures panel at New York Comic Con on Friday that Tiger & Bunny will get a live-action Hollywood film produced by All Nippon Entertainment Works and Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) and Brian Grazer at Imagine Entertainment.

"Stern Bild was modeled after Manhattan, so we are happy to announce this here today," said Masaaki Nozaki of Bandai Namco Pictures, referring to the setting of the anime.

All Nippon Entertainment Works' Sandy Climan and Annmarie Baily, as well as Imagine Entertainment director of development Alexandre Dauman were also present at the panel. Climan commented, "We want to blend the best of the original property that is true and faithful to the characters for the fans."

The project is still seeking a director and screenwriter.

The original television anime series centers around heroes for hire — super powered beings known as NEXT who wear sponsor logos while fighting crime on live television.

Keiichi Satou (Karas director, The Big O character/mechanical designer) directed the anime, and Masafumi Nishida (live-action Kaibutsu-kun) wrote and oversaw the scripts. Manga artist Masakazu Katsura (Video Girl Ai, DNA², I''s, Zetman), a well-known fan of Batman and other superhero comics, created the original character designs.

The series spawned two movies: Tiger & Bunny the Movie: The Beginning in 2012 and Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising- last year. Viz released the television series, the films, and the tie-in manga in North America.

Thanks, Deb Aoki.

Update: Ron Howard is producing the film with Brian Grazer. The director and screenwriter have not been chosen.
