Ushio & Tora Creator Kazuhiro Fujita to Launch Horror Manga

Early 2016's "astonishing modern spectacle horror" story about facing yourself in the darkness

This year's 52nd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine announced on Wednesday that several new series will launch in the magazine in the new year. One of the series launching early next year is an as-yet-untitled "astonishing modern spectacle horror" manga by Kazuhiro Fujita (Ushio & Tora, Bakegyamon, Karakuri Circus).

The magazine teases the story: "In the darkness, you meet. The horrifying entity that is yourself. And then, if you end up meeting … you won't be yourself anymore."

Fujita's Ushio & Tora manga ran from 1990 to 1996 in Weekly Shonen Sunday with 33 volumes. The manga was adapted into an original video anime series in 1992 and a television anime that began this past July. Sentai Filmworks licensed the television series and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan. Fujita's Bakegyamon manga also inspired a television anime in 2006. Another manga, the "Karakuri no Kimi" short story in Fujita's Yoru no Uta collection, inspired the Puppet Princess original video anime project.
