Gintama Anime's Shogun Assassination Arc Previewed in Video (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Arc to begin this Wednesday

The website for the Gintama television anime updated last Wednesday with a promotional video for the adaptation of the original manga's "Shogun Assassination" story arc. The arc will premiere in the anime this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (4:00 a.m. EST).

The story arc centers on the aftermath of a failed assassination attempt on the Shogun. With the Shogun vulnerable in Edo, a multi-pronged diversion attempt is created in an effort to transport the Shogun safely from Edo to Kyō. Gintoki serves as one of the body doubles for the Shogun on the land route.

The arc debuted in the manga's 502nd chapter in July 2014, and ended in its 524th chapter.

There will also be an event in the Ryōgoku Kokugikan in Sumida, Tokyo on March 6, tentatively named "Gintama Hare Matsuri 2016."

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the newest anime, which premiered in April.

Hideaki Sorachi's original Gintama action comedy manga inspired a television anime that premiered in 2006 and then continued with several extended hiatuses. The manga also inspired two movies, including the "final" Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare film that opened in 2013.

Update: Since the first episode aired at 4:00 a.m. EST, the anime's website has since replaced the video preview of the arc's first episode with the second episode's preview.
