If I remember correctly this is still an imprtant yuri series, because it predates and inspires kannazuki no miko, os even if the yuri is small is still present enough, specifically for it's time, to make i significant.

This really is a bizarre little series. I enjoyed it more than I expected to, although I couldn't make heads or tails of the overall story.

I remember this one. A weird little yuri show of the early 2000s, and probably the first yuri show I encountered. The review is spot on about the non-linearity. Had a pretty catchy OP too, I recall. I would recommend checking this out.

This is a pretty important series for me, in terms of... my life?
The very first fansub group I ever worked with (before starting my own) was called Miyuki no Tamari, and the series that they did which caused me to notice them was this one. I remember really liking this show at the time because of its non-linear elements and the plot all coming together in the end. Another show of that era with a similar surprisingly cohesive story I'd love to see someone pull out of a rights vacuum is "Kokoro Toshokan". |

Re: Theron's points about the character design, it's interesting that Carnelian is credited as the character designer for the original game. Her credits are mostly in the early-to-mid-2000s, with nothing after 2007 until last year, when she was brought in to design the characters for the Schwarzesmarken visual novel and anime
(EDIT: looking at her Wikipedia bio, she also contributed illustrations to the SM light novels as they came out, so that accounts for some of her activity in those years). |

Carnelian mostly works on Visual Novels and doujinshi. Her art is great and she's one of my favourites.

Yeah, when I first heard about this, I thought this was strangely similar to Kannazuki no Miko, in that the main characters looked similar.
I always enjoyed the OP song. |

No word on the fact that these seem to be DVDRWs? I'm glad you had no technical problems watching the DVDs, Theron. I've gone through two sets now with very little success in viewing anything.
I was able to open the DVD as a filesystem, and even got to view one episode with subtitles using VLC, but was unable to get subtitles on any of the other disks. I pre-ordered this when it was first announced, and left my pre-order alive at RightStuf for three years, mostly out of morbid curiousity. I think the library as a framing device is delightful, and felt the tragic lost-love tale of Hazuki and her search for Hatsumi (and her increasing knowledge of what sort of being Hatsumi was) was enough to purchase the series. That said, I thought few of the episodes really lived up to the concept, with the best being the Heian-era story and the one with Tama-no-mae. I kept hoping the diplomat/spy on the train would be a recurring character, but she wasn't. |
