I personally liked Tokyoscope more, because it talked to more representatives of the subculture, and was a little more whacked out, but Cruising the Anime City's aight. If I didn't own the book already, though, the review wouldn't have sold it for me, as it came off more like an infomercial than a critique.

I came back from Japan half a week ago and this book was invaluable in letting me know where to go. The maps aren't the greatest as the Akihabara one doesn't have enough road names on but the information about where to go is good enough.

The only real gripe is it doesn't tell you that most of the shops in Nakano Broadway and Electric Town operate 11 or noon till late. That and you may want to photocopy the maps so you don't walk around with a big book. You end up with lots of helpful Japanese asking you if you're lost which depending on their and your langauge levels may be troublesome Wink That and you don't want to carry around something that takes up room in your bag when there's so much there to buy hehe.

I'm on that board yeah but I ended up on a self tour of Japan at exactly the same time just with a couple extra days at the end. Its a shame but I had to book the holiday before Christmas to get time off work and pop Japan hadn't sorted things then. I'm definately going back though and hopefully with them, be nice to be accompanied by more than one english speaking person and more than none japanese speaking people lol
