I suppose the lack of response gives away just how much of a lull this volume was. I remember reading this part on Crunchyroll back then and thinking just how more interesting things could instead be covered. Thankfully the rest of the arc plays out much better so hopefully volume 6 is more warmly received.

In regards to whether or not UQ Holder is embracing it's self as a sequel or a spin off to Negima, I think that was clear from the opening pages of the first volume. It's clear that more and more as the series goes on it will begin to tie itself to Akamatsu's previous manga in inescapable ways, though I don't know if that will be good or bad for the series itself.

From all the discussion I'm reading in regards to how UQ Holder and Negima are related, the most common theory is that it's closer to "the fate of the Springfield lineage, Part One Point Five" rather than an outright Part Two. The hints the series gives so far is that spoiler[this is the timeline in which Asuna had been sealed away for over a hundred years, rather than directly continuing from right where Negima concluded.]

I honestly feel UQ Holder would be much stronger if it picked a path where it either didn't tie itself too much to Negima and does its own thing or where it just flat out just says "f it, here is the Negima cast back again, enjoy". Beating around the bush honestly is testing the patience of Negima fans and making the series just more difficult for newcomers to enjoy, IMO.

highly doubt it will happen like that.otherwise the bar would be put very high.which is the reason why akamastu never even dared to attempt to do a sequel or spinoff to love hina. But like it or not this series is indeed a sequel, though its mainly about eva (who was the second most popular female character in the negima series next to asuna) and her new "squire" of sorts tota konoe.

and Karin has evolved from simply distrusting Tota to actually treating him as a legitimate member of the group.
not quite. while its true that she's is starting to treat him as an equal, she only disliked him cause of the fact that he spent all of his life with yukihime (Evangeline) and she might have feeling for tota. she is as i stated unfortunately back during the review on vol 2 & 4 that karin is this series version of a certain scientific railgun's ( toaru kagaku no railgun) kuroko shirai and both this volume spoiler[ (asking fate that if he and yukihime were once a couple) ] and vol 2 spoiler[ (pressuring kuromaru to become a girl since he can change genders so there wont be any competition on being with yukihime)] prove that she's more or less have the same man hating lesbian tendicies as kuroko. completely obsessed of their female love interest and shun any male that get close to them.
