This looks like it could work. Surprised there's any new announcements given how long this has been floating around.

I'm quite surprised this is making even the slightest bit of progress, though I'm still skeptical it will ever see the light of day.

She'll be another 10 years older by the time they get around to actually filming, so they'll have to recast. This announcement is bullshit.

I don't think announcing the cast for the starring character before actual filming starts was a wise idea of the studio to make...

I remember seeing her in videos for College Humor. There's even one where they make a hilarious tribute to anime. Here's the link if anyone is interested:

20th Century Fox is negotiating the project's budget down from the $175-$200 million range

Guess that begs the question, is the above the difference in seeing an authenticate adaptation, or is it going to be a 'B' movie adaptation. I mean, are the cyborgs just going to look like humans, the movie is going to be filmed in the slums somewhere, and instead of the far future, it will take place in the near future.

Have my fingers crossed, but I am not liking the news.

To be fair, that was a HUGE budget. It would put it in the top 25-50 most expensive films ever made. There's no way a film from such an obscure source could ever be made for that much money. How could it make it back? You could still faithfully adapt this material for "only" $150 million and under.

You never know, this might actually get off the ground. I was surprised to hear Ghost in the Shell started filming. This actress looks like she might work. It's too early to tell if this could be good or not. At least it had a good crew with Cameron and Rodriguez...

I can't help but feel that this is just some production people prepping just in case the GITS movie is a success, because then they can get out the movie quicker.

Is it possible that VIZ let the original series drop out of print? There's no mention of it at all in their website, and no new copies are available in Amazon. A pity. I would have paid for a new edition (say, Omnibus volumes, each collecting two of the previous editions' volumes).

They lost the license after the series switched publishers in Japan (which is why the sequel is published by Kodansha).

Hmm... in french, we call this kind of project "l'arlésienne", something you wait for but that will never come, the ghost project.

I'd rather see Gunnm + Last Order get a well deserved animation adaptation than a live-action, the old OAV aren't really good (I still have them on VHS!).

I thought this wasn't coming out until Avatar 5 was made? This film won't come out until 2024 and they've already cast?

I think it's more of a cameron saying that he would not direct this film until avatar was made, so they finally decided to change directors and go ahead.

andw ell, robert rodriguez can make a gunmn movie with 2k usd so the budget is the least of my concerns.

I'd say that any casting decisions are highly subject to change considering the movie isn't officially green-lit yet.
