I find this series to be pretty fun to watch mostly with the relationship between the girl and the bear. It has some of the catchiest OST as well imo for the season.

Natsu's VA must have a lot of fun playing the character Cool

I kinda agree with Machi. I would have rather seen something more Ainu inspired than the outfits she got. She did look cute in the dress and hat but obviously it's not a miko outfit. Am I the only one who found the drawing submitted by the last entrant terrifying? It was on the same level as Kobayashi Yuu's drawings, in that it is simultaneously poorly drawn and terrifying, like a drawing by a toddler who will grow up to be a serial killer

It would definitely be in Machi's best interest to leave the village.

I don't see why some mention Kuma-lingus and Bear-sex as if it were integral to the show, there really isn't any (darn)! Ep1 only has some stylized pictures which aren't graphic and a slight description. The story is very cute for the most part with only occasional off-center references (did he "do" you too)? I love how Machi tries to reason her way around her lack of knowlege and sometimes gets it right, sometimes hilariously wrong and how Natsu is just a goofy bear at heart. One of the better shows this season I think.

The first half of episode 3 was hilarious, I really couldn't stop laughing! It helped that they Got themselves a talented key animator for the job, as characters were filled with fun and cartoonish movements. Overall, I'm enjoying this show quite a lot.

Really mixed feelings about episode 3. On the one hand, the noticeable improvement in character animation was a joy to watch, while the explicit acknowledgement of Ainu influences in rural Tohoku was also a nice touch. I'm kind of learning the Ainu language right now and reading a bit about the culture, so I had long suspected that Machi's miko outfit had a very Ainu-inspired look. Most anime and manga taking inspiration from Ainu culture don't actually bother to reference them by name, so the fact that this show discussed them in such detail, coupled with Machi's sincere interest in her Ainu heritage, made me appreciate the show a lot more.

On the other hand, not only is the off-colour humour back in full force, this episode seems to go even further in sexualizing Machi. The scene of Yoshio shaking her down was really uncomfortable to watch, and the fanservicey shots from the "fashion show" didn't help either. I agree that Gugure! Kokkuri-san's humour was even creepier, but I had much less of a problem with that show since, as far as I can remember, it practically never tried to frame Kohina herself sexually for the audience. Where Amy saw this show "acknowledging its uncomfortable content up front" I saw it having its cake and eating it too - the last episode gave me the feeling of the show almost being smug about how self-aware it was in its fanservice. I don't consider this a turnoff in and of itself, being a big fan of the Monogatari series, but that franchise more than makes up for this smugness with narrative strength, empathetic characterization and great food for thought theme-wise. All I see this show doing well is the endearing relationship between Machi and Natsu. I probably would appreciate it more if the show was just a series of shorts featuring no characters other than these two.

Yeah, the whole Uniqlo thing was very unfunny to me. I know it's a clothes store, but still have no freaking clue what the hell a Heattech is (and am not exactly itching to know) and the whole sequence, with the overdramatized bike accident, meeting a sexually-harassing drunk old man and her cousin just wasn't funny, but annoying.

Episode 3 on the other hand was really funny and surprisingly well animated. I have no idea where this one's gonna go, but I think it's gonna be full of ups and downs all throughout.

So Natsu uses Machi's starry-eyed vision of the city to his advantage: he reminds her that hip Tokyo residents are very into "trance," the type of dancing they do at nightclubs. This results in one of the funniest scenes in Kumamiko so far, with Natsu as the DJ at a dance club where Machi responds with frenzied dancing.

This is the greatest scene in the show thus far. The sheer brilliance of Natsu's VA (who is also Chad's from Bleach and who also voiced a certain lion from a certain anime about a crazy family ;D) pumping out trance beats was gold. :D

Really enjoying this show. Lots of the humor I know from being in japan and the Uniqlo joke was right up my alley, as my friend had told me that Uniqlo's heat-tech was really popular. I look forward to more fun jokes like this.

I am kind of wondering who they got to do Kaori's English voice. I know Ishigami Shizuka is credited for the voice, but the English was way too native-sounding to be done by a seiyuu, unless they had spent a LOT of time overseas.

Out of the 3 episodes aired thus far, I, too, found that scene to be the most enjoyable. The sharp contrast between the show's usual, gentler character design, to the more ominous one used in the scene helped delivering the punch. I wouldn't mind getting a sample of that track Very Happy

Every joke gets stale if you tell it too many times

I'm pretty sure the guiding principle of anime comedy is that if it was funny the first time, it'll be funnier the next time.

Natsu's weird fixation on the bear outfit

Well he is a bear, so it doesn't seem weird for him to be interested in that one.

Also they went shopping to get her clothes in general not a miko outfit as a) she wore two out of four (three if you exclude the sun dress) so they passed muster for outdoor duties and laying around the house. b) she mentioned in episode 2 she had no outfits aside from her school uniform and miko outfit.

Given her vast knowledge of Shimomura, I'm surprised Machi had never heard of Uniqlo.
