Greeninja's long tongue gave him an unfair advantage to get the ladies' vote.

This poll is not about favoritism, its for an event, the winner will be distributed at the movie from July 16th 2016, various merchandise, as well as a special edition New Nintendo 3ds, thats the reason there are too many legendaries in the list.

I can't believe how rigged this election is. Mew, Arceus, and even Pikachu are much stronger candidates than Greninja. He's untrustworthy because of how often he flip flops on what his move type is, and polls say that he's gonna loose the election against WarGreymon in November. So pissed that Anime News Network declared him the winner even before America cast their ballots! Totally plan on taking this matter all the way to the E3 floor next week and contest it. ‪#‎NeverGreninja‬

Greninja, you say? But it barely has a face! I fear some degree of demagoguery is to blame for this upset.

Greninja won because it was designed to be a "cool Guy" Pokemon. It's humanoid, has a interesting gimmick and objectivity looks great with no dumb quirk or flaw.

Pickachu on the other had was not designed to be "Cool" it's more basic and "Cute".

It's the same reason Ace ranked so high in One Piece popularity polls, he was a generic Cool guy that was so likable it's sickeningly annoying how "Cool" he is. Geninja is the Ace of pokemon.

Heh, I'm glad that First Installment Wins isn't the case with Pokémon fans in Japan. If this was conducted in the United States, even if it was for an event, the results would be very different.

The United States is driven by nostalgia a lot more than Japan is, which is why first installment wins is so prevalent. Gekkouga has pretty much usurped Pikachu in the anime as well as Satoshi's ace Pokemon

No Espeon present makes me sad, but kudos to Greninja! You've been really awesome lately in the Pokemon XYZ anime!

Pikachu has been taking it too easy and that's why he lost. Now that he's aware, he'll get right back on top soon enough!
