Sailor Mercury's sometimes-mocked ending pose has been fixed so that she no longer appears to be in desperate need of a toilet.

I find that pose very memorable. Smile

Some of the sakuga folks on Twitter say that staff on season of SMC are talking about how reasonable the production schedule is. I wonder how much of season 3's improvement can be laid at the feet of a better production schedule, and why season 3's schedule is so much better - just better planning on the part of director/producer, or perhaps Toei management sees the show as higher-priority now?

Basically this third season is a lot better than thee past 2. The transformaton sequence are the best and I like that Michiru and Haruka have a better relationship that Sailor moon S.

The character design I actually like this time, and I think the keyframes are way messier. The facing does feel better in my opinion, so yes I think is a bigger improvement and I find myself now truly enjoying Crystal.

I think this season would work much better as a movie, because the story is great, but the plot is still awkwardly stuck between having too many episodes where nothing happens (basically the first half of the season) and not enough episodes that contribute to the character development of... anyone, really.

I'm not sure if I should blame Takeuchi for badly written source material or the anime staff for being too faithful to it. Which is the same problem I had with the first two seasons of Crystal.

I am along this general line of thinking as well, there have been decades worth of modern magical girl shows that tread overly similar territory and something that is done MUCH better in other shows is pacing and character establishment.

The issue is not that I dislike the show, it is simply I am disappointed and underwhelmed.

I'm a little bit peeved that now we've got a third season that looks amazing and is enjoyable to watch thanks to a new director of the anime but now we have the first two seasons which won't look as nice.

Also, I think they could have added a lot more episodes to the first 2 seasons of crystal just to engage in some sort of character development with the other scouts.

The old series may have had a lot of "useless" episodes but at least each and every girl in this series had a personality and background story in the series. Crystal lacked that for me but oh well not everyone thinks like I do haha.

I'm a massive fan of the old series - there is no growing tired of it. It's something that I enjoyed watching as a kid, growing up and it led me to becoming a fan of anime in general. Overall, it's still a fun and unique series to watch.

It was not "rocky and controversial"; it was a beautiful and faithful adaption from the start, with upgraded artwork and manga content only, no filler BS. The only legitimate complaint was the bi-weekly schedule, which I agree was stupid and unnecessary.

:/ I think you have to at least allow for the "rocky" part. Bi-weekly releases and the quality was still all over the place. Also, "ungrateful"? I think it was a lot of the grief Toei got over their sloppy rendition of the first season (and possibly the first half of the second, depending on who you talk to) that prompted the stability of Season 3. I mean, they not only fired people, they redid the art style. I'd say that's a pretty big sign that even Toei acknowledged they had problems.

That said, I do feel that Crystal was one of the very few shows to get a second chance at an adaptation, and I'm glad that they're doing the material justice this time around, even if I'm not totally sold on some of the narrative choices.

These are pretty much my feelings. Well, I do feel that I dislike it at this point, there are way too many issues with the terrible writing, the contrived plot, Usagi's Mary Sue features and the lack of character development to say I'm just disappointed. I expected so much more for such a universally well-regarded and beloved franchise, especially with all the hype about "faithful adaptation". Sure this season looks much better than the previous two, but it still has too many glaring visual errors for it to be considered a complete improvement. I know this is Toei, but they can do so much better. They actually did Mononoke and Kyousougiga, and both are absolutely stunning pieces of animation and visuals (then again, they're both eons better than Sailor Moon). It's just tragic that even such a huge moneymaking franchise gets such a shitty treatment and that fans have to settle for it because "it could be so much worse".

I've already harped on the other thread about all the things that have disappointed me in Sailor Moon Crystal, so I won't repeat it here, but I share that sentiment about wondering whether to blame the source material or the adaptation. Or maybe the fans that kept it so hyped for so long, which made me expect much more than a shojo fantasy from the early 90's could've given me. Oh, but Magic Knight Rayearth was from the early 90s too and it's superior on all accounts. Takeuchi's fault it is.

Sailor Moon has always been a generic magical girl manga/show. The original writing has plotholes and weaknesses of its own. I think you set yourself up for failure thinking it was going to be something "special" in that sense as the show was never a "great story". If you compare it to recent magical girl series, it looks even weaker on this front. Most of us like Sailor Moon because it was our first magical girl series and the original anime came at the right time that we were awed by the moon princess and her fight against evil. We have a fond place in our heart for it and we can look back with nostalgia glasses and appreciate it for both what it is and what it isn't.

I mean, we're talking about a series whose attack names are things like "Double Moon Princess Halation" and whose villains come from Nemesis and are part of the "Black Moon Clan". It's not exactly Shakespeare.

Crystal could have been something great if Toei had not been involved in this series. All it needed was a modern touch and good animation and I happily admit I would have been frothing at the mouth for more.

Well, regardless, yes, the first two seasons did have glaring issues, though they did eventually fixed them somewhat. And yes, S3 seems to be good as it is, issues aside, things are working out nicely, and maybe the other arcs may get an adaptation? (As there's Super S and Stars variants left.)

I know I'm in the minority on this, and some may think I'm crazy, but I liked the CGI transformations. It was different; I mean it took me out of my comfort zone. Not many anime (or at least the magical girl ones) that I watch have CGI, so it was a welcome change. But I can live without that.

I know I'm even more in the minority on this but here goes: I like the art style of the first two seasons better. "Gasp!". Yeah, I know but hear me out. Anime smile. I feel that the first two seasons had a look of maturity that the third season lacks. It's too moe; too cutesy and sugary. It kind of feels like I'm watching Precure or Powerpuff Girls Z (I'm not knocking those series, BTW). The girls also look much younger than they are. I'm not saying that the third season is bad. Far from it, actually. I also think that as the series looks now, it looks too much like the classic anime, which takes away from the point of Crystal to begin with. Now don't misunderstand me; I adore the classic anime. To this day it remains in the top of my favorite animes list. But what I loved about Crystal was the fact that it was so different from the classic anime. The overall look was updated but you still knew it was Sailor Moon. The 3rd season borrows too many elements from the old series. Sailor Moon's 'Rainbow Moon Heartache', for example, is practically identical to its classic anime counterpart.

Overall, the third season is really good, and I enjoy it greatly, but I just haven't been able to fully enjoy it 100% like I did the earlier seasons. But I will say that I'm LOVING not having 2 weeks in between episodes. Seriously that was torture. But anyway, even with my personal gripes about the animation style, I'm still so grateful that Crystal was made. I've always hoped for a more faithfull manga adaption, but I never thought I'd get one. Now my love for Sailor Moon is bigger and stronger than ever Very Happy.

Compared to the train wreck that was seasons 1 and 2, season 3 is turning out to be everything I ever wanted.
