I feel like this is so under the radar, especially for an anime that is based on a key studio game.

It is actually quite a different change in perspective in terms of how relationship develop and form, this was the first and so far only series that key has ever focused on both a futuristic dystopian setting as well as the onyl focusing on a relatshionship development between a human and non-human.

i feel people should have a bit of a wider recognition, besides it is not like it is going to be long. based on the time of the game and the rate which the anime is being adapted it should be completed in about an hour and half tops.

Also for anybody that is actually interested in this show..there is also a movie coming in late September that is based on a written novel which focuses on events after the series and in serves as the series conclusion.

Nice review.

I've been waiting a long time for this and it's met all expectations. On a Clannad/Kanon 1-10 feel level I already give this an 8. But, honestly, it's probably that high because I've seen the kinetic novel. The movie has the potential to be epic.

I think rewrite is kinda overshadowing it. The first episode of rewrite didn't hit it for me. I haven't watched planetarian yet but I hear lots of good things about the VN. I just have too much on my plate right now.

We've had an 18 minute episode and a 14 minute one. Makes it easier to fit into a busy backlog.

The Amazon BD lists a runtime of 93 minutes, so it's likely the remaining 3 episodes will be around 20 minutes each.

There are 17 chapters in the Planetarian kinetic novel, and so far we've adapted more or less up through around half of chapter 7 (The End of Repairs) so the pace has been really spot on.

I've been wanting a planetarian anime for so, so long*, and I'm thrilled to see that the adaptation so far has been rather on point.

I think this might be the first Key adaptation to interest me right from the get-go. I've basically come to accept that their stories don't become truly fascinating until their respective halfway points, if not later. I'm also not big on visual novels, but if an official English language version of this one were to come out, there's a good chance I'd pick it up.

You're kidding. It's only a 5 episode series from source material completed a decade ago and we still get a see-the-movie ending? oO

Movie is a sequel based on material produced after the kinetic novel was released. This series will fully adapt the game's story, including the conclusion.

I tend to avoid series like this simply because I usually end up depressed after they are done as I get all wrapped up in the feels, but since it's only 5 episodes and ep 1 was well done I'll keep going. Probably gonna need to watch some mindless fanservice series after this to cheer myself up or something though

I knew nothing of the VN but Ep1 told me all I needed to know, that I'd live this show. Seeing the screen-shot of Hoshino-chan it seems the anime enlarged the diameter of her "hair circles" (hair ribbons) Shocked Excited to hear about a movie and the Steam VN, thanks guys for posting those! Like JaggedAuthor says "Well, there goes my weekend...."

The VN at best takes 4 hours to finish. It's one of the shortest works of Key. and since you already start watching the anime i suggest finish it and then go play the source material (it's only 5 episodes and playing VN will spoil the ending for you)

2 semi-short episodes later and it feels (hehe) like the story progressed much faster compared to the other KEY/Visual Arts' work this season, Rewrite. I don't means it in just the plot, but also in presentation, world-building, making the viewer invested in the world & characters, and the events thus far; all of which are down better than Rewrite's, IMO.
