I hope they adapt more than one novel this time. I want to see the events of volume 3 for... reasons

As much as painful to know how that novel ended and S2 will very likely follow that, Kumiko x Reina will always be my OTP. |

He doesn't even appear in the key visual. Heck, that oboe girl seems to be the one who's going to be getting screentime. |

He wasn't in the key visual for the first season either, but still had a decently sized role. But yeah, I expect KyoAni will down play his role again because yuribait sells better. |

True. One can even invert that for Sapphire's and Hazuki's role in the overall story despite being in the key visual. Heck, after what happened to Hazuki last season, I'd imagine her big developmental story is done.

Two characters need learn new instruments for Eupho to join my ten best evaaahh list.
Hazuki must blow the trombone and Kumiko must key the trumpet! |

I've read every translated interview on this anime project, and, although it's possible that she was just straight up lying, Naoko Yamada claims that she doesn't see this as a yuri project. Apparently this is the kind of relationship that she thinks is common among Japanese High School Girls. Since it's a very long interview, I'll cut out the relevant parts so you don't have to scroll through it, though if you have time, I recommend it(thanks to forum member ultimatemegax for the translation work): Oguro: But you don’t think of it as yuri, Yamada-san? Yamada: That’s right. Oguro: I thought there was also some yuri in Tamako Market. Yamada: Ah, that’s right. Surely you mean about Midori. Oguro: That’s right. Ishihara: I agree. That’s somewhat serious too. (laughs) Yamada: Is it? Ishihara: Well, that doesn’t go to where men want yuri to be. Oguro: (interrupting Ishihara) No, no, if Yamada-san doesn’t think it’s yuri, then it’s not! Ishihara: (continuing on) What men want is a bit more giggly chuckly….. Yamada: (interrupting both Ishihara/Oguro) Calm yourselves down! (laughs) Oguro: Sorry. I got a bit excited. All: (laughs) Yamada: Okay. So I’ll say it clearly: I don’t think that’s depicted as yuri. I wanted to depict adolescence. Oguro: For which case? Yamada: Probably for all of them. For Tamako, for Reina, for all of it. I wanted to depict adolescence! Oguro: Did you want to depict the feelings during that time. Yamada: Yes, I wanted to depict those feelings. I have an interest in those points of view. So, anyway, take it or leave it, but I'm okay with either interpration personally. As a former youth, I can understand either perspective. Youth is rarely very straight forward though, so I don't really think of it as a tease, although I understand the frustration. |

In a way this doesn't surprise me, but some of the stuff we see is definitely pushing it. And the fact that such a topic was brought up in an interview with her at all means it's pretty plain to see. As much of a yuri fan as I am, I've been getting sick of the teasing that doesn't go anywhere in so many shows. I'm not even sure what I want from this show anymore. |

Which is fair. I am disappointed with a lot of "bait-like" relationships as well. Which seems like something a lot of shows use just to capture that audience, and then never go through with it so that they don't scare away other potential audiences. I've found I'm honestly happier with shows if I just assume that this behavior is normal for younger people and don't put on the yuri goggles unless I know something is meant to be a dedicated yuri show. Which is really rare...

I've never consider it a yuri show either. I don't see girls being all touchy feely and automatically think lesbian. But heaven forbid I ever say that out loud else I'd be labeled a homophobe and set on fire.

Do people typically respond like that? I would imagine it depends on whether you think the notion that they might be lesbian is a good thing or not. I've had a lot of really interesting run-ins with various passionate people, and it's quite surprising how often people just assume the worst. I honestly would rather this not be a story about lesbians, but just a story about youth. That's just my personal preference though. I think it's absurd to assume that someone is homophobic because of that. A good variety of stories within fiction is a good thing. As a fan of yuri, I would not at all mind if we saw more true yuri though. |

Mostly depends on the person and the particular fandom. The Nanoha fandom is especially bad about it. It's the worst with yuribait shows where nothing is ever confirmed or denied so if I chime in with a "You know, them acting like that doesn't necessarily mean they're lesbians" I might be met with "They're gay! It's so obvious anyone can see it! And if you won't admit it that makes you a homophobe!" Really it's mostly just name calling in an attempt to invalidate any argument I put forward. I'm on record saying I'm simply not a fan of yuri. When faced with a situation like Euphonium I'll always take the "they're just very close friends" interpretation unless outright stated otherwise. And yeah, I prefer seeing them shipped with guys. But that also makes me the Anti-Christ to some since I'm 'destroying' happy gay couples and 'forcing' them to be with men. I do appreciate it when a show has a yuri subplot that's actually treated seriously and not be just bait. I thought the way they handled Midori in Tamako Market was excellent, for example. I'm all for people loving whoever they want, but that's just a particular flavour of ice cream I don't go out of my way to eat. |

If you're referring to the later stage of the Nanoha franchise where Nanoha and Fate are grown up, living together, sleep together, and have adopted a child, then you are definitely going to get snapped at if you don't see them as a lesbian couple. That's just waaaay beyond any sort of plausible circumstance otherwise.
