With Godzilla having the U.S Fanbase it does it's a little disheartening to see this with a limited release. So far only one theater in Michigan is playing it and it happens to be in Lansing ? Way to go out of your way Funimation. Hopefully they announce more dates

Wow, it's actually going to be at a theater close to me! Not sure what date I'll go though.

Hate to be a negative nancy but I was pretty bummed out when I heard Funimation got the license because I knew that meant a VERY limited theatrical release.

I saw it in theaters here in Japan, and honestly it's an extremely Japanese film in many ways, it will just never have any kind of wide-market appeal in the west.

It's way too talky for your casual viewer, and eschews all human drama... A wide release would just be a bad idea. A company like Funimation picking it up and marketing it towards the niche that will love it (fans of Japanese films, hardcore Godzilla fans, and fans of Anno) is the right move.

If you didn't pay attention to all the issues with the Japanese government's reaction to the tsunami and Fukushima disaster, a lot of the film's impact and message will be harder to understand.

The theater listings seem like.... an odd choice. So few for California, and NOTHING in San Francisco?! There's so many places there that play limited movie releases, and nothing this time. This was one I actuallu wanted to go watch, too. I sure hope they add more locations...

Yeah, this does seem remarkably limited for something as big as Godzilla. I have one near me, as was expected(thank you Angelika!! I can always count on you!), but I feel for people who aren't very close to one. I imagine these will all sell out, or get very close, for them. Which is good for Funimation, I suppose, but a little bit of a bummer for fans. I guess this means they must not have paid too highly for the rights though. I was half expecting this to get a wider release just because I couldn't imagine a limited release like this being enough to pay for the cost of the rights.

I wonder if Aniplex of America's AkibaFest will incorporate this somehow, since it's supposed to run October 15-16. AoA have also said they'll be bringing out the 2nd Kizumonogatari movie that month, and the combination might be a good counterweight to other LA-area anime events that same weekend (MacrossWorld down in Torrance, Miss Hokusai theatrical release at the Nuart).

The theater listings are just what fandango has been releasing so far, and most likely wont reflect all of the theaters Funimation plans on showing the movie. Until there has been an official listing by Funi, this information is what we have so far.

The recent DBZ limited theatrical releases had far more cities throughout the nation that received the movie. So if it follows the same track, more cities will be announced when the official word comes out.

That's good that there's some hope. I was planning on bringing some friends to go watch it. I don't normally go watch these special releases, but this is definitely one I'm down for, especially because it won't be out on blu in Japan for a while, either.

As of right now there are no theater announcements for the entire state of Ohio. So basically all I can do know is pray that one will appear by October 11. Shocked

Yeah for me since I'm in Lansing. So I bought my ticket, several seats are all ready filled. Unfortunately it's not in Imax, just on the regular screen.
Also they also are listing showings in Grand Rapids and Muskegon.
