I seriously like the manga(I read up to chapter 16), because besides being a blend of multiple ideas from other shonen series(Soul Eater, Bleach, Noragami, Blue Exorcist maybe...), sometimes it subverts the expectations in good ways. Also is at its core, an action romcom. Sounds weird, really.

Call me an offender of the manga, but despite what it has good, there are some notable flaws that obviously the director of the series emphasized in adaptation, like the power-ups and Mayura feeling like jealous of not being with Rokuro.

However(again, if you think I´m offending the manga), the anime does some good things with the source. The death of Fushihara, at least for me, felt like the death of any possed by a kegare, while here we have some context of his death. Ryogo feel here a liiiiitle bit like a young man instead of a workaholic exorcist with the introduction of Haruka. And the power-up of Rokuro at episode 20, I think that they willput it later like a trained transformation. If they put the whole transformation for longer, instead of a brief intro, it would´ve felt more obvious of a power-up.

I am more of the person who thinks that not all adaptations have to be faithful(or copy pasted) to the source material, so if some changes are good, why do we have to talk about the argument of Manga VS Anime? Yeah, I know Pierrot has awful fillers but I´m only stating a point.[/spoiler]

The anime really got good in the past few episodes and this filler arc seems really promising aswell. But still people will complain about the adaptation from the manga and that they are making fillers which is kinda normal if you think about it logicialy. This anime got confirmed for 50episodes and they dont have that much material so it was only a matter of time befor we will get original content and we also often see that they change things from manga when they make an anime changing the events etc.
So yeh kinda happy we got a 50ep anime with this i can hope we will finnaly after some time get an anime that will have a proper ending and not again one of the many anime where they make 12ep and then give us a big slap and simply send us to reading the manga/LN etc....

Considering we just had the 2 year time-skip, I guess doing it now makes sense.

And I love the 'new' character design for Rokuro. Looks way cooler and more mature. The longer hair makes him look more badass. And yeah this show has gotten a lot better recently. It shines when it drops the nonsense and shenanigans and when the show takes itself more seriously. I'm loving the romcom aspects between Rokuro and Benio as well.

...I've been thinking...is this actually filler? We might be going overboard and forgetting what filler is. It isn't just original content, but original content that fails to move or contribute to the plot. There are times were anime original content is actually part of the plot. Hayate no Gotoku had original stuff in an anime and movie. When the manga caught up to the point of the story it covers, they skipped it and said to go watch them.

This might be something like what happened with Akame ga kill. The mangaka for TSE has been using the anime to add stuff to the story they felt was missing. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted this to be part of the story, or atleast parts of it. There are only 11 Basara and 12 guardians, most of whom haven't been introduced in the manga. The mangaka might be approaching this arc as a serious introduction to all of them.

That's what I was kind of thinking with the type of filler this may be. I remember when Hitman Reborn was still airing and people were upset about the timing of the filler in the Future arc, but in the end, it contributed a lot to the plot and flowed really naturally. I guess we'll see.
