I don 't know about this.
Go isn't exactly a popular pastime in the US,so Hikaru no Go's chances are slim at best. |

It is going to be a proper treatement of it, right? Hikaru no Go is the best kid's sports anime I've ever seen. It avoids taking the game too seriously very well, and is more about Hikaru growing up then how cool go is. I actually care about this one.

What I'm worried about is the translation of the actual game. Go, unlike Yu-gi-oh and such IS a real game that has been played for hundreds of years in japan. Trying to change an old game like that to fit the american kid audience will bring an uproar from the japanese creators. (If they do change it I hope it does) Plus I've always wondered how you can translate such a complicated game as Go. There are many terms and moves that would have to be explained, and some of the "current events" (since his was circ. 2001 it's not current anymore) relavries in the world of Go that is evident when Hikaru goes to other countries and plays Go players from those countires, would have to be explained as well. And the ending segment "Go Go Igo" really helps explain Go 10 times better than by just watching the show and the chances of them incorrportaitng anything like that is slim. I don't MIN hearing this show dubbed, but I want to know how their going to actualy translate the game itself. Most 10-13 yr olds aren't going to go on the internet and look up GO, they want it all explained to them on the show. Plus unlike Yu-gi-oh and other shows like that this will not be popluar because for americans GO is too complicated to learn. I've watched all the eps of the show and still don't understand the game. It's one of those cultural things, you have to be 1) japanese or 2) willing to research it/ try to leanr how to play it to really understand this show. That is my main problem withthis show being dubbed.

To be honest, the Hikaru No Go manga is so good, that you don't even NEED to know how to play the game. I still have very little idea how the game works, but the manga is phenomenal.
Besides, it's not like you can market Go like you can with Yu-gi-oh! Go is an actual game, and there's absolutely no collectivity and merchandise involved other than actual Go boards and pieces. It would be the equivalent of making an anime about playing Chess. Go is thousands of years old, and having kids getting interested in it through Hikaru No Go (which is exactly what happened in Japan) is absolutely NOT a bad thing. |

in short Go is a board game... in which you use "stones" to "surround" and "capture" your oppenents "stones" HAHA i was at AN so I heard about it... was wondering why it was taking so long for AN to hear about it... |

Why'd you put everything in quotes?
It's more about encircling and therefore claiming territory (empty spaces) and disrupting the other player's attempts at the same than capturing enemy stones(which only seemed to happen occasionally in the show). The one with the most territory at the end wins, though often it becomes obvious at some point who will win and one player will resign. The basics are very simple, but it turns exceptionally complex when played by two skilled people. I still don't really get it, but I loved the show anyway. |

Also, if you read the first chapter of the manga, it turns out that Hikaru and his friends didn't really know much about the game at first, so I'm sure the first few episodes of the show will involve him learning to play. I haven't seen the show, but the characters and premise look interesting. |

The show (in the Japanese version at least) also has a two minute tutorial at the end where they discuss the game and techniques that are used. I've always wondered if they licensed HnG what they would do with it.
It'd be kinda cheesy to dub it, but then again I don't think the target audience would like subs, and it's also too much of a shame to cut since it's so informative.

I could care less about any of the game tie-ins on any of these titles. I like Shaman King for the characters. I like the Hikaru no Go manga for the characters. Yes, it is like soneone doing a show about chess or checkers tourni, or wrestling, or anuthing. They aren't all things the viewer has to run out to collect or dash out to participate in. Heaven knows at least 50%(probably more like 90) of football fans haven't played in yrs-if they ever did. I knew squat about Go when I started Hikaru no Go way back when. I now know enough to get thru the manga. I'll probably never play, but I'll watch the show.
It sounds like Shopro might be mixing the cast as with Zatch Bell. There are actors from different groups in that dub, although it's mostly the West Coast crew. I recognized at least 1 Ocean name in the list so they seem to be going with who they like best, or maybe who they find easy to work with. |
