It's shocking New Game got the fifth spot.

I'm happy Food Wars climbed up a bit because I was quite happy with the conclusion last episode and although it fell a slightly Mob Psycho 100 is still doing pretty well. Also Sweetness & Lightning seems to be dropping quite a bit recently and although I enjoyed the most recent episode I do agree that spoiler[using the same formula over again is getting a tiring now][/quote]

I'm surprised Alderamin has not managed to catch on. It's a fantastic show but it's barely cracked the top 20.

I can understand DAYS being at the bottom of the barrel, it's gotten really bad, but Cheer Boys? It's by far one of the most thoughtful shows of the season, and the respective threads seem to be positive about it. I can't even buy that people are downrating it for its piss poor production values, 91 Days and Orange have the same problem and neither has been tanking that badly. I just find it very odd -maybe even suspicious- that all three sports shows have been consistently at the bottom, all of them coincidentally starting the decline at the fifth week in the cumulatives. Jacob mentioned there's a noted attempt to sabotage Thunderbolt Fantasy, is it possible that something like that is happening again here?

^ It's pretty well established that most American viewers generally don't like sports anime. So while it is possible some folks are down-voting these shows, it's also possible that what you're seeing is a result of that dislike. Maybe some folks tried to give them a chance and just gave up at around that point. I'm pretty sure that ANN is keeping an eye out for the sort of thing you're talking about; Jacob's remarks indicate that to me, anyway.

@CrowLia It's possible, but I don't know how likely that is. If they are, they are being fairly subtle about it. The average ratings for each episode, while less than where you would expect them to be based on the reviewer rating (mostly Bs so around 4 or so) they are not wildly so (mostly around 3.5 but some 4s). The average ratings were also around that of the show's ratings elsewhere. It is possible it is being targeted in the same way but given the very modest difference between the ratings and reasonable estimates of what it could get, it would be hard to prove that there was malfeasance without inside data. In addition, if they used the same method as the winter and what was apparently going on with Thunderbolt, it shouldn't affect the rankings due to measures taken near the end of the winter.

Edit: And since the review of the most recent episode of Cheer Boys conveniently came out today, I can see the initial average rating. It's at a 3.8 as of editing, so it is not far off from where it has been for most of season. So if there is malfeasance, it is having very little effect.

Edit 2: Also even the lowest scoring episodes rated higher than the lowest score from the preview guide, so its ratings are not out of line with plausible genuine opinion of the show. Granted if said reviewers watched it past the first episode, their opinion may have changed but since even the highest ratings from reviewers, including the weekly one, are not all that different from average, the rating seems genuine enough.

This has surprised me a bit, too, as I have certainly thought that the series has been improving over the course of the season (and it wasn't bad to start). It's hardly doing badly, as the episode for this time period rated 4.3, so I think that its relative rating is more a testament to the strength of the competition this season. Heck, Rewrite is in the 24th spot (of 30) with a rating of 3.8.

Anyway, Re: Zero is back on top of the weeklies, as expected. Looks like it might not hold the top individual place next week, as its (4.6-scoring) episode 24 is currently getting beaten out by Jojo's and is running neck-and-neck with Mob Psycho's ep 11, but it's nearly certain to be at least in the top three for the weeklies and is in zero danger of losing the #1 spot for the season. Even a catastrophically bad final episode may not knock it off its perch at this point.

91 Days has a really good story, so it's easy to forgive the production values. It's not like it's Berserk bad.

That's just the show regressing to the mean. It was kinda amazing that it went up that high in the first place, not that the relevant episodes didn't deserve it.

Yeah but Berserk also has a good story too, though the production values are certainly not as good. They are getting better, or people are getting used to it at least.

It's that preconception of hatred towards the original arc as filler. I'm personally loving every episode so far, and if they don't screw up the ending, then it'll be a real treat for me. I just hope the staff, heck, even the author if he's writing the scripts or is in charge of the scenario makes this actually count.

I guess all of the phoenix conservationists finally stopped downvoting Thunderbolt Fantasy.

I think people are still in love with the concept of 91 Days even if its execution is kinda...meh. Dropped it by episode 4 myself, just had zero investment in the characters and story unfortunately. Sucks because I really wanted to like it.

It's frankly bizarre to me that Sweetness and Lightning is still second in the cumulative rankings, despite its most standout episode since the initial few only ranking 4th. I guess it makes sense, since a quick glance at the cumulative rankings shows that the shows immediately below it have much more extreme highs and lows, but it's still a strange sight.

While its most arresting moments have been few in number, perhaps Sweetness and Lightning is faring so well simply through maintaining its mass appeal. A fan of divisive moe titles may enjoy it as much as their supposed antithesis, to give but one example. The only reason one might be deterred from the show is the simple fact that not very much happens within it, a hindrance that is very mild considering today's increasingly particular demographics.

It's that preconception that bugs me. People want more adventures or some expansion of characters in the source material, but when the anime does that, people tend to cry like babies because it´s filler. If we could stop with the stupid mangaVSanime argument.

I´m reading Black Cat and I´m thinking the anime is better. The past of Train and the death of Saya was enough enjoyable to see in 7 episodes, while in the manga was 2 chapters and some flashbacks and I was like: "ehhh? This is not satisfying". Up to Vol 16 the manga feels like a Cowboy Bebop rip-off with a not so interesting universe and villains that feel straight from a SAturday Morning Cartoon Show. And the story had potential, but it seems that Yabuki wanted to write something that sells, not something that engages, like Cowboy Bebop. The anime made the experience better, if not by much. People want a remake, but much like Sailor Moon Crystal, it will suffer from not being interesting if it is faithful to the manga.

About TSE, I like both experiences, but it seems that this arc will apport some worldbuilding and a little more than its source material
