It's not down and has still a LOT of active players. Its normal for the player number of a mobile game (or really any kind of game with the exception of casual classics and MMOGs) to drop like this, and it's not unexpected. The game still continues to be immensely successful and will probably have another spike when generation 2 is introduced, though it will never reach its initial hype peak again.

PoGo made $500m in 3 months and it's "down"? It sat on the #1 spot for 74 days in a row and now that it dropped down to #3 it's "down"?

When other mobile games stayed number 1 for over a year yes it's dropping quickly for being one of the most hyped and advertised mobile games ever.

What mobile games have stayed #1 for over a year? Just curious.

As for being one of the most advertised? Essentially no one i've played with and have met while playing knew about PoGo until it actually launched (neither did I for that matter).

And of course it'll get a steep drop as the initial hype dies off and, in this case, millions upon millions of casual players stop playing the game. How can some people not understand this? Shocked

While Pokemon Go is by all measures quite successful, I still think it could have done even better if Niantic wasn't fumbling with it, removing features, failing to fix bugs. 74 days as a top grosser is pretty good, but with the ridiculous number of people playing and paying initially, it should have kept going as number one for much longer. Or maybe they don't really care, because they're already rolling in cash.

There is only so much people will spend on it as it's not needed in the first place. You can't expect a game to stay top on earnings when it's set up to not need money spent on it to begin with.Other than lures there's really nothing to spend currency on that you can't get for free other than the item/poke on slots.

From business view, this is really a bad news. Normally company want their products to stay top and steady all of time. Not keep losing more players every day. And your thinking is lack of common sense. Its like saying Sony is still doing well(cough Vita cough) while the video game console interest is slowly dropping.

"Hey, lets stop trying hard since we sold PS4s more than 40 millions unit and lets make an updated PS4 with minor changes."

Oh wait. Sony actually did this. And seems like Niantic is a new Sony. Not trying hard with major updates to gain back players to play Pokemon Go.

I find it nothing but utterly humerous that you'd say that my thinking is lack of common sense. Sorry to break this to you and your "business view" but no mobile game in 2016 will ever get 100m users and make $500m in revenue each quarter that passes. No mobile game will ever steady out on such high numbers, it's just not realistic.

No one expected PoGo to become such a major success, and now that the "oh, new shiny thing!" hype is dying off some people think that it's the end for the game. Well guess what? A lot of people will simply latch onto phrases they've heard or seen someone else express.

Playing Supercell's Clash Royale instead of Pokemon GO is like going to a prostitute for a hug.

You clearly haven't taken any business classes. While I don't agree with his insult towards you or his analogy, from a business perspective such a drop off is definitely a bad thing. You want to have a steady stream of income from a game and have a consistent player base. There just wasn't enough there to keep people coming back. Look at the new top grossing games and you'll see they have a lot more potential long term investment for players.

I don't know for sure how long, but Game of War was making serious money last year adn was at the top grossing chart for least 3-4 months. Maybe if Pokemon Go used Kate Upton for advertising it would still be the top grossing app. Laughing

I got confused regarding the name "Supercell" and was wondering how the band Supercell had made a game, had it translated and then got it insanely popular in the western market.

Anyway, this isn't very surprising. Interest is waning in PokeGo gradually, and the charts are pretty fierce.

Devs killed the game, they could've made the game huge but they decide it's better to clamp down on cheating than try to innovate by addressing the cheating with features that can't be circumvented. The whole business with relying on business locations as gyms and only place that you can use as lure is a terrible game model. Because it limits your playbase.
