I haven't read the manga, but please don't tell me this is Grave of the Fireflies 2.0. The date and setting aren't very promising...

"1945. Kure, Hiroshima. I live here."

Wonder what the motivation is for this character Suzu to be sketching those ships. From what little I understand, that place she lives, Kure (near Hiroshima) was quite the scene of destruction (to eliminate the remaining Japanese naval ships there) before the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

If that poster is supposed to be a depiction of life during spring time (?) then I think I can already imagine what the summer scenes will look like. Just the opposite.

Even more curious to see how all of this gets treated within her story. And of course like a broken record I would also like to see the comic released here as well. Along with a re-release of "Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms" (I know I know I'm asking for too much).

Will the ending BLOW the readers away?

The character lives in Kure in Hiroshima Prefecture, not the city of Hiroshima.

Plus I seem to remember from previous items about this movie that the story extends past the end of the war. Not sure, though.

That's not that far way that if she was outside looking in that direction she would have seen the bright light and then heard the shock wave then see the mushroom cloud. Depending on which way the wind was blowing then she might have even seen black rain. I will be looking forward to this if only to see how it portrays that time. Wink

Thing is it's 1945 and she lives in Kure. The same Kure that was bombed and all of the ships at port destroyed and or damaged so that they couldn't be deployed elsewhere. This occurred in 1945 before the end of Hiroshima. So who knows if this story even includes her or her family as witness to that.

If it's anything even remotely like Fumiyo Kouna's manga for Town of Evening Calm which does an incredible job of simply communicating the toll in human terms without ever making it a tool for propaganda then I don't expect that I'll have dry eyes at the conclusion of this one.

Can't wait to see it.

The bombing of the ships in Kure harbour happened a few months before the A-bomb drop so that drawing of her sketching ships before then is a bit dubious as in actuality had someone been seen doing that back then they could have been taken as a spy and shot.
