Alas, I have never watched the original FMP. However, I may pick this up, just to hear Souske say "biatch."

Trust me, the more times that word can be inserted in a humourous manner, the better. Laughing

I remember once at a anime store, this otaku guy with glasses yell out "Biaaatchh" for no reason and it was totally lame. I guess it could have been funny but he was so sorry looking and his voice was really horrible.

Actually Sousuke's not the one who says it.

I never saw the original FMP either, but I enjoyed every ep of this series greatly. Anime smile

WEll I personally like the original one better as it blend many genre into one. Fumoffu isn't bad, except there's a lot of "impossible" stuff so you have to suspend your belief and just go with the flow.

Watching this again, I can't help but think of the movie Major Payne with Damon Wayans.

Yeah. In Japanese, it's supposed to be understood that Sousuke doesn't understand what another character is saying because his dialect is so far from the standard Japanese that Sousuke is used to. Hayashimizu acts as kind of an interpreter between the two of them. ADV chose to make the dialect a kind of street slang in English. That's probably the closest thing one could do in English to get the same effect across.

I think that Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu and Excel Saga are two very different types of comedies. I think I had more laughs on the first episode of Fumoffu than the first five or six episodes I've seen of Excel Saga.

When I saw that scene, I was laughing on the floor for a full minute it was so good. Laughing

Incidentally, I'm surprised that Kyoko's English voice wasn't discussed in the dub. It is easily one of the most annoying voices I've heard in my life, in or out of an anime, and though it tries to be similar to the original voice, the original voice was fairly annoying as well. Every time I saw her walk on screen, I cringed in preparation for the noise that emitted from her mouth.

I have to agree on this. Kyoko is a quirky character, but Monica Rial made her too quirky; clearly not one of her best rolls. However, Way Jeng of AnimeonDVD had a different opinion on the dub of Fumoffu.

Really? That one didn't even register for me. I thought Monica Rial was fine.
