Oh no, not another one...

Do people actually play these things? I mean, there've been like 20 different anime TCG released last year. What gives?

OK, no offense to people who enjoy them, but...it's a bit much, yes?

No.

Anime companies, there is no need for this.

We gave you the Pokemon TCG. We gave you the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG (which was only natural). We even let the DBZ/DBGT TCG slide.

We stifled our protests about the TCGs for Yu Yu Hakusho, InuYasha, and Shaman King.

But when it goes this far, when you start making TCGs for every remotely popular anime, we're going to respond.

The world does not want, nor need, TCGs for One Piece, Zatch Bell, and Case Closed. When Naruto premieres on TV, we do not want, nor need, an accompanying TCG.

It is when you start pulling ridiculous grabs at money like this that we're going to get truely tired of it, and we're going to take action. The coming day will come when Amendment 28 of the Constitution will be passed. It will not concern gay rights nor stem cell research. No, it will be an amendment banning the creation of more anime TCGs!

You're insane. Everyone knows the 28th Amendment will be a law preventing people from flying into fits of rage because a dub slightly mispronounced the name of their favorite minor character. (example: "Launch? LAUNCH!??!! Her name is LUNCH! CRUSHKILLDESTROY!")

The thing about these CCG's is, they already exist in Japan (where One Piece is more than a "remotely popular anime"-it's one of the most popular series of all time) so all Bandai or whoever has to do is translate the already existing cards and sell 'em. Even if they don't sell terribly well, they'll still make money off them, since CCG's are a great profit source-people pay three or four dollars for packs containing maybe ten cards, each which cost about five cents to manufacture (and people end up buying lots of packs looking for a single card they need) so even when you add liscence fees and advertising (usually minimal, as the property is expected to sell itself) on top of that, Bandai still comes out making quite a bit of money per pack, especially since they don't have to go to the expense of making up rules and desinging cards as all that work has been done for them. Then they pass the savings on to you, and release all of Gundam Seed Destiny in a box set for ten dollars. I wish. But this is why you can bet that there's already a translation of the popular Japanese Naruto CCG in the works. I bet we'll see it here in time for Christmas.

And anyway, I would play a One Piece card game. I'd also play a Conan one, just to see how the heck they'd pull it off. But I'd only play if someone else lent me their deck. ^^

speak for yourself buddy. The Yu Yu Hakisho CCG rocked, and had a nice cult following. If the One Piece game has a cool playeble mechanic I might buy a couple starter kits. And the Naruto ccg lasted a while overseas, so it has a good future here.

As long as they don't make it exclusive to Blockbuster or Wal mart (gundam. shamen king), I could care.

And as long as they don't contain razor sharp edges laced with poisen, the army of CCG anime lisences will never hurt me or you.

Yeah, you wish, and that'll never happen.

Pretty much every remotely popular anime has a TCG in Japan.

I agree that the overabundance of TCGs in America is annoying, and that companies should stop (btw the Shaman King TCG is dead. Ding dong), but you might as well bitch to Japan in the first place.

I'd buy this, but I refuse to buy any One Piece product (outside of Viz books, since 4Kids doesn't profit) until we see some uncut DVDs.

I realize that they already exist in even greater numbers over in Japan, but American consumers aren't that obsessed, and those that are would gladly import the Japanese cards than complain about how they're poorly translated.

The market doesn't need to be that saturated. I'll stick with Magic and the occasional Yu-Gi-Oh game, thank you very much.
