I'm wondering the same thing, hopefully it doesn't put Seven Seas publishing of Citrus and such at risk.

Karneval, licensed by yen press, runs in monthly comic zero sum. I wonder if this will affect what yen press can license in the future since they are partially owned by kadokawa.

I doubt it will impact any existing licenses, future licenses will be something that we have to wait and see.

I said myself, "hmm, I wonder when is Kodansha USA going to join the fray in bringing yuri titles," and this was not exactly I had in mind (assuming they get first dibs).

Yen Press already works with Kodansha (Yuki Kaori's Alice in Murderland is one I keep up with but I know there are others) so it doesn't seem like this would disrupt things. (not sure why Kadokawa is being brought up here: Kadokawa is not Kodansha (pointing it out because I've seen people get them confused before) and Yen Press publishes plenty of non-Kadokawa manga.)

I don't think it will affect existing licenses. I know that Yen Press licenses from a variety of places. I brought it up because I don't know Kadokawa and Kodansha's working relationship since it could be different than Kadokawa & Ichijinsha. Kadokawa didn't buy into Yen Press until this past spring so Alice in Murderland was licensed before that happened. I'll have to check and see if there were Kodansha titles licensed after that.

This is making me sort of nervous. I wonder if Kodansha USA will hop on the yuri train or if this is going to impede the yuri train in English. I'm interested and afraid to see how this plays out in the English side of the industry for current and future licenses.

I do not know about this but I guess we could get more anime adaptations out of this. Especially the yuri ones like Citrus. I am praying for Citrus anime to happen.

Why would it put an existing licensing agreement at risk? That would be breach of contract. Just because Kodansha has an American publishing arm doesn't mean that everything under the Kodansha umbrella is published by Kodansha USA. Until Seven Seas license agreement is done, they will be the US publisher of Citrus.
