As a fan of the original Patlabor TV series, the reboot looks good.

This looks great. They look to be capturing the original style and spirit very well, in ways that a lot of more recent remakes don't seem to have been able to. In particular, the cartoony, exasperated expressiveness of the characters really takes me back, and that's a big part of what hits the mark for me. The art style is really on point too, and you can tell the character artists have a good understanding of how to capture all sorts of different types of people, and from different age groups. I really miss seeing this sort of mature work, that looks to treat its characters like actual adult human beings, and not emo/fan-pandering objects. Hopefully it gets a Western release of some sort, I'm curious to see how it turns out.

It'd be nice if older Asuma & Noa makes an appearance or something.

This is pretty high quality for a short! I'm impressed. A bit sad Oshi is not part of the team but I think he doesn't want to do anime anymore.

It is nothing if not unfortunate that this one-minute promotional video is a full eighth of the length of the work it promotes. Surely the Patlabor franchise is sufficiently respected in its country of origin to warrant releasing something slightly more substantial.

I'm impressed that this captured the spirit of the original while still trying to be new.

I heard about this from a friend, but I didn't know it was just an 8-minute short. Kind of a bummer considering it's been 14 years since Wasted XIII came out, which was itself kind of a letdown considering the original cast and the Labors themselves played a minimal role. Patlabor was one of the first anime I saw in the early years of my fandom in the latter half of the 90s. If we're lucky, maybe if this short proves popular enough they'll do an entire new TV series or movie.

If you consider the original Patlabor (the OAVs followed by the movies), it often happened that Labors were only in the background or even absent of an intrigue. I am also certain that the detectives are part of the original's cast.
