Sure, release the thinkpack version a month after I buy the regular box set.

dang, I'm not buying anymore of the older ADV releases...
but really, I like the deal it's just, they need to announce it earlier so I don't get shafted... a day after getting all of pretear, they have the thin pak coming out... anyway... come on EVA platinum thinpak... *har har har* and before that, I'm off to sell my copy of AZUMANGA DAIOH that I got for 10$... anyway, what about everyone else who collects their stuff, what are your feelings on the thing? |

Something for storing your thoughts in. lol It's Thin-Pak - Thin Packaged DVD. In this case, 6 DVDs in the same space as 3, maybe 4 normal DVD cases. Bet you don't get the enamel pins with the thin-pak. |

Thin-paks are smaller DVD cases, roughly half the size of standard DVD cases. I find these especially useful for my discs due to limited storage space, so all of my discs that aren't in box sets are in thinpaks. You can find them at various places online.
As for what ADV has done recently with Noir, Full Metal Panic, and Azumanga Daioh, (maybe others) this frustrates me to no end. It's gotten to the point that I've stopped buying their newest titles and will just buy their boxsets which take up about half the space and cost just half the amount. I wouldn't be surprised if they saw their sales drop because of it. I bought the very first release of Evangelion one disc at a time, and numerous other ADV series since then. It's my own fault for not wising up sooner, but I imagine a lot of others are feeling the same way now. If these boxsets come out less than a year after the initial release, why not wait a bit longer? |

Its only a matter of time for eva platnium to come out in a box probly not a thin pack but a box. Just Follows ADV's past history.
I stopped buying indudial dvds a while back becouse of that. only buy a few on a per disk basis. |

They are also putting out thin-paks of Najica Blitz Tactics and Pretear, in August. When I heard about them coming out I was hoping that Azumanga Daioh would have a thin-pak release too, so this makes me really happy. Yeah, I usually wait for the sets to come out because I'm poor.... I'm still praying for a thin-pak release of Cardcaptor Sakura.... $400....

Boy, what a choice: Najica, Pretear, or Azumanga. Hmmm. I wonder what I'll pick.
I might actually buy this, as my DVD collection is growing ever-so-slowly. Normally I wouldn't buy anything because I'm stingy as heck. Now if only ADV worked on getting the new stuff out as much as getting the old stuff back out.... |

Another thing, one big thing you lose, especially in the case of Azumanga Daioh are the DVD inserts.
Azumanga Daioh had 12 page booklets on translation notes, character info and other information per DVD. Full Metal Panic! also has those inserts, but they are just folded into 1/4 that have character and mech info. |

Wait, so are the DVD inserts/booklets just made smaller or folded, or is actual information lost? Because if I'm going to get a DVD, I'd rather get the one with an insert than one that has a smaller case. How many completely hardcore Eva fans would rebuy a ThinPak version of Evangelion Platinum?

My thoughts exactly. It's seemed they released comple sets of every anime I recently finished...including RahXephon,Noir and now Azumanga Daioh  .

When you get thinpaks, there are no inserts. RahXephon being one of them, on the original DVDs had a fairly thick insert per DVD with character bios and other information (about 5 or 6 pages). The thinpak box was devoid of these. You lose quite a bit of information when buying a thinpak because of this. Maybe the Azumanga Daioh thinpak will include a DVD with all the information that the individual DVD inserts had, or a CD with all this on a Adobe PDF file. |

Lucky for me I already bought all three series Such is life.
Regarding inserts and fun stuff like that: yes, these repackaged thinpak boxes don't include that, but the question people need to consider is that do those extras make it worth paying nearly twice as much for the whole series? Depending on the inserts, maybe yes, maybe no. The Azumanga pins are nice, but would I consider buying them as a set for $60, which is essentially what it boils down to? Not a chance. Plus the box the first disc came with is not even one of the sturdier ones. At least Noir and FMP had the sturdy boxes, I guess they call it chipboard. Now if the original box+1 sets were packaged with CD soundtracks, that might be worth considering... Or maybe a ticket/coupon for a t-shirt that will actually fit me? ^_- |

yeah that's why I almost always wait until a series has been out over a year and starts showing up used/on clearance. Buying them new is just SO much and then they jsut release a much cheaper boxset. Although I did buy azumanga new as it came out. Is 60 bucks worth waiting like a year to watch azumanga? I don't think so. Although for the vast majority of titles it certaintly is.
