My wife and I saw Kumiko Kato at Sakura-Con. It was an unexpected surprise, even as Japanese guest liason staff.
Initially, I heard she was working for Avex US. Avex is a large talent/recording agency in Japan known for Ayumi Hamazaki, among others. So, I expected mainly a pretty face and not a lot of musical talent behind it.
She is extremely cute. She has a nice roundness to her face, a friendly and shy stage presence. I don't recall anything particular about her music, I was sort of enchanted by just watching her sing and pose.
At the convention, she had no CDs but just photos for sale. I think she probably sold out of pictures. It does seem a bit odd to show up for a performance without an album.
I'm not sure what to think. I don't think she would appeal necessarily to Japanese living in the U.S., and I wonder what the 'con otaku' think of her. She's not really a Japanese artist, so I'm not sure what particular interest your average anime fan would have.

Absolutely Cute as a button.
Seen her twice at Kamikazecon and A-Kon
Good singing ability and moves her body like Shakira.
Speaks really cute English and is SOOO nice.
I'm buying her album!

I saw her at Acen. She put on a good performance.
After seeing her perform and going to the autograph session, I thaught that would be that. But Then I ran into her at the con, and of all things she remembered me from the autograph session!
I wanted to pick up on of her CD's but none have been released. |

I checked and Amazon is not doing preorders at this time, it comes. So I guess ya have to keep your eye out for it, it comes out this August. |

Yeah she does look like Jessica Alba (a little cuter).
Its funny that a Japanese Girl would end up in the Hispanic area of the Bronx. I'd imagine a girl like that hanging out in Alphabet city downtown. It shows she has character.
