Damn that's a lot of money for a sub only screening which proves that Godzilla is pretty popular in the west.

When I went to see it Saturday, the theater was nearly empty. I guess that's a decent opening for such a limited run.

Huh. The theater I went to was packed. It was a big room, and there were barely any unfilled seats

Awesome numbers for such a tiny release. Half the days it was only in 20 or 30 theaters, and most places it only got 1 showing a day. That has to be encouraging to Toho, and I hope Funi made a good profit so they'll do this kind of thing more often!

Same here, I checked online ticket sales (the theater has assigned seating, so you can see what seats are already sold) to see how it was doing. They only had 4 - 80 seat showings but it was almost sold out to sold out for all showings.

When I saw it the only preview was for "Your Name" and the One Piece movie, that are suppose to have a limited theatrical releases. If those do good maybe we might get to see more Japanese live/animated movies in theaters. I'd go see "Your Name" if it comes here.

Another critically-claimed Toho (by distribution) title this year is "Kimi no Na wa". The fact that Funi has licensed both has to be an honor. If Disney had gotten this title, they could have given it a wide distribution (I mean at least 700 here) and thus possibly earn a few million here.
