Wish kodansha pushed their actual manga series as hard as they are pushing this thing. Its all over my twitter yet they have titles they barley ever mention.

You can easily tell it's American. They're retelling/reimagining a pre-existing story again.

You can easily tell this is a comment from Topgunguy. He's complaining about American comics again.

Yup, because the myriad of Gundam manga don't do that. I mean, Gundam is SO American. It's only problematic when it's done by Americans. Because choice, availability and stand-alone comics are bad.

Damn.

Uh-huh. And anime and manga haven't done this dozens if not hundreds of times over the years.

Really, what's the big deal? It makes absolute sense that American comic book creators might have interest in/respect for manga and vice versa. They're all in the same industry.

Someone doesn't seem to understand what a tribute anthology is, and I don't mean Theron. Think of it as akin to doujinshi, where fans retell or add to or make sh*t up because it's funny. There's always bad, there's always okay, and you hope for one or two jewels. I bought this and love it for the collaborative nature of East and West because so often *looks up the page* it's a needlessly antagonistic relationship. I hope to see more like this. I'd love to see one for One Punch Man.

To me,this is something I should keep my eyes open for. There are those who are going to complain about this. I'm not one of those people. It's interesting to see other takes on the "Attack on Titan" universe. Particularly from American comic book artists. I hope that there's going to more like this out there and I also hope it's shown in Japan. "AoT" fans there would probably like it a lot.

Super refreshing. It's always interesting to see someone's take on a foreign property. Luckily, these are VERY competent fans with strong resumes who understand and like the material and the result is satisfying. Some of the writing does its job for a short story while others you want to read more about their take on Isayama's world.

I like the humor in this. Most Attack on Titan spoofs try to be funny but their tone feels mismatched with the source material and falls flat. Not here, the dark humour matches the dark atmosphere in the source material and this smooth transition makes it work.

Considering the age-rating, I agree wholeheartedly with the point Martin brought up that it's a lot more mature than the source material and it's adaptation; so much so to the point of censorship. Naughty bits are blurred out in one panel and an entire scene is removed. Looking at North American age rating standards, such is understandable but I'm still upset.

When it boils back down to it, we need to remember that Attack on Titan is a shonen; something the writers and artists are unaware of nor care about. I think this says a lot about age ratings in American and Japanese comics. The Japanese are regimented to specific age groups but can get away with many more things. The Americans are not regimented at all but age rating is more restrictive on what's acceptable. It's also worth noting that the Japanese were never neutered by something like the Comics Code Authority. Due to it, only recently have Americans begun to truly spread their wings and take flight.

All and all, it's an interesting book. If you're a fan of Attack on Titan, I highly recommend it. If you like comic books, I'd recommend it even more.

Same here. Superheroes were forced to become American comic books' bread and butter. Americans have perfected the superhero to the point of the medium becoming stale but despite this, the Japanese are always able to put this weird and amazing twist on the genre. It would be interesting to see the experts take a crack at such an ingenious premise.
