it definitely different from the anime version that is for sure. and considering that these two volumes more or less start the second season, does this mean that the ending for tokyo ghoul VA is a OAE (Original Anime Ending) and not an ending from the OSM (Original Source Materials) like the manga and/or light novels?

Correct. The ending for Root A was anime original.

that's a relief. it would seriously suck hard if it ended like that without knowing any of the unsolved questions in the storyline. and root a's ending is definitely one that have a bad taste in my mouth and in my opinion, one of the worst endings for a series since akame ga kill which tried and failed badly at being a fantasy themed version of X-1999.

hopefully that ending is also an anime original and not from the original source materials aka the manga/light novels.

but more importantly considering how popular TG's manga is currently is, here is to hoping that there might be a season three in the works where it will BE more faithful towards the manga and not end up like the many other popular series (deadman wonderland) where it ends in a crappy note and will have to read the manga to complete the storyline.

The entirety of Root A was anime original, with canon-inspired events.

But the ending of the first manga leaves you with more questions than Root A did. But that's because it's not the end of the story. The manga has a direct sequel that started 2-3 weeks after the first manga ended, and answers most questions, though at the same time has added more questions, which will of course be answered in the end too.
